I've never asked anyone for an autograph without sending a sase. However, in the past I have simply written a fan letter and recieved an autograph. :D

When I first started autograph collecting, I didn't really understand that it was common to include a SASE. Most of my early successes were from just a LOR. It only took me a month or so to realize that I should be courteous and send them a SASE.

I usually only include something for them to sign if I want something specific signed or if they haven't done anything in a while and there is a chance that they don't have a stack of photos laying around.

in 2001, I sent a letter to George Carlin expressing my appreciation of his entire body of work. In return, he sent me back a personalized 8x10. I didn't even ASK for anything back!

Are you likely to be succesful however by sending just a LOR and a SASE and sending nothing to sign. Will mant celebrities provide something of themselves that they will send off if this is the case? If so, who?
yes, most will provide a photo, theres too many to list that do. I hardly ever send a pic for them to sign (but always send a SASE)

I always include a SASE, it increases chances of a success.

I have just sent letters to Geoffrey Rush, Michael Emerson, Aaron Eckhart, Jorge Garcia, Kevin R. McNally and received a reply from all of them.

I agree that paying for the return postage is a courtesy, but I don't think the majoity of people would be as mean to not send you something because you didn't provide the envelope.

Do many celebrities send photos of themselves if you only include a LOR and a SASE with nothing for them to sign. If so, who?

By this I mean, that it sounds like the Eastender cast will send and sign cast cards with a LOR only with the BBC providing a SASE and postage. Correct me if I'm wrong.
