In some cultures, writing in red is considered offensive. I guess it's just where you're from.

I've actually never seen an autograph in red. I can't imagine it looks very good on most pictures.

I never heard the red pen thing before, Red is my fav colour and i love when things are signed in a bright red sharpie it is diff from the average black,i have been lucky enough to have received 5 pictures from 3 diff people signed in red and they are my fav autos from Mia Kirshner,Mary elizabeth Winstead and lindy booth... {up} [ca] ...I hate anything signed in silver,it either rubs off or doesnt stand out, blue is my second choice from red and black is ok too.I have also had at least 6 pictures signed with a regular ball point pen which is ok because they were against a white surface but they don't look as good as a sharpie marker, but they were all from via venues so i guess the person didn't have a sharpie handy.

It's not rude to write in red. Someone gave you bad information. The thing about writing in red is that it is not cosidered binding in a court of law. Only documents written in blue or black are recognized by a court of law. That's probably where that stemmed from.
It's what my mum always taught me when I was young. I think it was something to do with the association between red pen and things being marked wrong in school and therefore being seen as a bad colour. Maybe it's a UK thing or even a thing from the area of the UK I am in because you very rarely see people in this area EVER use a red pen particularly older people.c
