If I really care about someone enough I'll write the letter regardless and if I get anything back then it's a bonus.
I wouldn't bother doing it with huge megastars who have a reputation for not signing, (who wouldn't even get sight of any letter in the first place), but as on the whole I tend to write to character actors and musicians rather than Hollywood legends,
I've had some successes where others have had multiple failures, I'm still waiting on some where it seems that everyone else has guaranteed successes. I don't think that's unusual in this game, and for the sake of the price of a lottery ticket to send to someone and more chance of a return, I'm not really fussed about a few failures.
