Yeah but it makes the celeb look bad and makes real fans turn away when they charge that much to sign. Its a slap in the face since the fans keep the actor in business going to their movies and spending their money on tv and movie merch.

hayden panettiere for $60 is CRAZY. and saying the money is going to charity makes it just as bad. Wouldnt Hayden want to charge $20 and get 10 times as many people to buy pictures for her charity instead of a few crazies willing to put down $60? And the "charity" bit makes me snicker too.
Many of these celebs and companies give only 5% or whatever they are required by law to donate since they sold the items in the name of a charity and they keep the rest.

They think the "charity" bit makes them look good but in reality its usually just to move more product.
I always wonder how much actually goes to charity also.Another thing is some people on here claim to have successes to be auctioned for a charity but i often wonder if its not just a ploy/tactic they use in their letters to manipulate the celebs into signing so they can sell the autos and keep the money. Who knows but i never trust "Charity" stories.

I just personally would not pay more than 20 dollars maximum for one depending on who it is with 20 being max. I dont exactly think they are doing it to make money because they have to supply the photo and envelope when you purchase it from their websites and with most charging between 10 and 20 bucks they arent making alot of profit unless they sell a huge amount of photos which is unlikely. So i have no problem with it because the average request costs me at least 5 dollars for postage envelopes and pictures without knowing if i will even get anything back so its worth it to buy them sometimes {up} [ca]
I agree with the $20. Maybe $5 or $10 with your item and sase sent or $15-$20 if they supply the photo and mail it out.

Tricia Helfer charges less than $20 for her signed photos and that mailing out from Canada to the US. Shes a main character on one of the biggest sci fi shows of all time so if she can do it affordably anyone can. And her money goes to an animal charity as well.

lol I spoke too soon. She now charges $20 for personalized photo or $30 if u want a special message or quote as well. Used to be $16 for a signed photo, $20 for personalized or $25 for a special message.

I have no problem with this, either. If a star wants to charge, that's his/her perogative. The fan can decide if it's worth it. The most I've spent is $25 (off of Gil Gerard's website), and since he was one of my childhood heroes, I felt it was worth every penny. I've also bought autographs from Julie Adams, Dick Miller, Jeremy Bulloch, Felix Silla, Audrey Dalton (hopefully on the way), Jane Seymour (charity), Tippi Hedren (charity), Lee Meriwether (charity), and William Shatner, and just sent some $$ to Raquel Welch (and that's not even talking about IP's at conventions!). Thrilled with all of them.

The way I see it is that they are either doing it to reduce the workload, or raise money (for charity, or for themselves), and these are totally legitimate reasons, as is throwing requests into the bin unopened.

Which is why I'm always delighted when someone I admire takes the time to sign something and send it back, knowing that no-one owes me a free signature, but that the people who do take the trouble to respond are just kind and thoughtful enough to do it anyway.

I beleive Hayden charges $30-$60. But it goes to an Animal charity foundation as well. {up} so it's worth it. I've still not gotten her yet.

As celebs, if they do really appreciate their fans' supports and love, then why wouldn't they sign for fans gladly? Signing for fans has to be a reasonable, small expression of gratitude toward their fans, I believe. And of course, if the appreciation is really from their bottom of their heart, then there shouldn't be any costs for that!
I can certainly see that point of view fully. But when it is not for their own personal gain, but for charity, do you see the reasoning there?
If charging is only for charity, then it would be acceptable in that case. It is reasonable enough. What are some people charging so much money though? What is their purpose? :?
