Authors will sign bookplates when the the book is not available to sign. The bookplate has adhesive to attach to the book. As far as donating signed books to libraries they will just rip out the signed page eventually so its probably better to give them to friends or family.
No. I think the librarians will put these signed books on display. I highly doubt they would just rip it out. They're more respectful than that.
I think he meant people checking the book out may see the autograph and rip it out.

Correct me if I am wrong.

An Autograph Gift

I have a small project going on. :D
I volunteer at a nearby elementary school. As a gift to the librarians I am getting some author autographs for the library. Childrens author Molly Bang said she'd sign a few bookplates for me, and a picture. The bookplates will go in a book, and I will frame the picture so it can be set out in the library. I have asked a few more authors if they could donate a signed bookplate so I can put it in one of their books.
It will make a great gift when I go back. I will buy the books myself and put the bookplates in them. It is very exciting. {up}
