I think conventions are one big monmey making machine exploiting the fans and making them pay $$$$ to get in and then again and again for simply everything and you have to queue for it, too.

If you are into cons, that's fine, please enjoy! I just don't see myself going to one anytime soon....

So far I have been to only one convention, and as I am 7 months pregnant I don't know if I will be going to another any time soon!! lol

I went to the Star Trek Las Vegas 2012 convention last August.
Me and my husband mainly went to meet the cast of The Next Generation (TNG), sadly Sir Patrick Stewart was not there though.

I left a review in the In Person section of the forum just after I went, it can explain all I did and saw:

I hope it can explain some of the questions you had in your original post :)
My advice would be to prepare for a long day/few days. They will be tiring, possible expensive, but memorable!! :D

So far, I've attended three Star Wars conventions ever since I started going and first found out about conventions in 2011. Will start going to a few mixed-franchise conventions starting with Heroes & Legends in Belfast, Northern Ireland next month. I'm hoping to attend a lot of conventions this year!

So far I've attended these events and seen these guests, only got one autograph though as none of the others interested me for autographs then:
Star Wars Invasion Dublin II (Dublin, Republic of Ireland 2011). They had: Jeremy Bulloch (Boba Fett), Kenny Baker (R2-D2), Garrick Hagon (Biggs Darklighter), Julian Glover (General Veers), Paul Blake (Greedo) & Michael Kingma (Tarfful). Steve Sansweet was also there but I didn't see him. All of these guests I saw at the Q&A that they had.
Star Wars Invasion Dublin III (Dublin, Republic of Ireland 2012). They had: James Arnold Taylor (Obi-Wan Kenobi The Clone Wars), Billy Dee Williams (Lando Calrissian), Jeremy Bulloch (Boba Fett), Mike Edmonds (Logray) & William Sliney (Artist). Got James Arnold Taylor to sign a action figure packaging for me for a mere €10. My friend who went with me to this one got a signed Boba Fett picture from Jeremy Bulloch personalized to him, but we weren't that interested in the other guests, except Billy Dee but my friend didn't end up wanting his autograph when we felt that Billy Dee was acting like a jerk at the event. James' was my first in-person autograph or autograph at all, so I'll always remember that.
Star Wars Invasion Belfast V (Belfast, Northern Ireland 2012). They had: Jeremy Bulloch (Boba Fett), Tim Rose (Admiral Ackbar and a few other characters), Anthony Forrest (Sandtrooper), Jerome Blake (Mas Ameeda and several other characters in the Prequels) and William Sliney (Artist). Didn't get any autographs here as none of the guests interested me in that department, but I did have nice individual chats with Jeremy, Tim & Anthony while at the event. Those three were very nice people and I also got pictures with Jeremy & Anthony.

My convention schedule is looking much busier this year, as I'm hoping to attend a lot of conventions this year. I know I'll be attending these: Heroes & Legends (Belfast, Northern Ireland 2013) in February, Star Wars Celebration Europe II (Essen, Germany 2013) in July, Dublic Comic Con in August. Also hoping to attend the following events: Star Wars Fan Fun Day (Burnley, England 2013) in May and another two Invasion's if they have any this year. This year will be far my busiest for attending conventions! :D

Conventions look so awesome! It would have been really cool to attend to one one time. Sadly that have to wait until I get a bit older! (unless there's something in London coming October, which I doubt..) Hope to meet a lot of HP cast in the future!

I went to WonderCon this year, for one afternoon to meet one person lol. It's usually in Northern CA (I think) but was relocated temporarily due to renovations (?) of the convention center up there.

Basically what I learned was, expect crowds. It took me so long to get from the parking area to the actual booth where the actor was signing that I had to jog a bit and maneuver around people. He is not that well known, but was the star of one of my favorite shows (Legend of the Seeker). I was so late at that point. However, someone kindly informed me as I huffed and puffed over, that he had just arrived and was far from finished signing. Fashionably late? Also, my "ticket" was purchased before the event and online. Prices and details (number of items, photo ops, etc.) vary, but I'd say most will, if not all, charge for autographs at cons. I didn't want to pay for it, but hey, at least I know it's 100% authentic lol.

My only advice would be just to prepare something to say. I was awkwardly speechless as he signed my DVD case (which I brought from home) and ended up saying only hi and thanks. Forgot to show off the shirt I made!!!! Although, I got an awesome photo of him holding the autograph and giving me a thumbs up. Then he said it was nice to meet me. So sweet.

Erm. Anyway. I really want to go to San Diego Comic Con one year. Soooo bad. I might try to get in for 2014. =)
