My friends know about it and I actually got a couple into the hobby.

My parents and grandparents all know about the hobby and they get pretty excited when I get something back.

Pretty much everyone else I know, knows and overall there are mixed feelings, some love it, some think its fake and a waste of money.

My friends know that I collect, but it's not something I bring up a lot. I don't want to seem like I'm bragging to them. I think they'd probably like to collect as well but their parents wouldn't let them from a money standpoint.

My grandmother doesn't really appreciate my hobby at all. She's old fashioned and her and her siblings never wrote to people they didn't personally know when they were growing up. Plus she thinks most of them are fake and that there's a very slim chance that celebrities would reply to fans personally.

My parents on the other hand support my hobby 100% and are just as excited as I am when I get autographs back! I buy my own stamps and envelopes typically but sometimes when we're out shopping my mom will offer to buy them for me so I can save my money. I've written to celebrities for both my mom and dad before too!

My friends all know I have a pretty big collection. I think I've posted 4 maybe 5 pictures on FB of some of my biggest returns, and I've gotten a bunch of likes on them and comments like "no way! how did you get that?!" haha. It's not something I usually bring up to people though, unless they ask or say something relating to the subject.

I've been asked if I go around stalking celebs, and I have to explaing that NO I don't go around stalking them or hounding them at movie premieres or on the streets or anything like thst, but that I just write them TTM and alot of them will send me something back. As long as people know I don't go around stalking celebs, people usually tend to think it's pretty cool and I've never been told it's weird or creepy lol.

A good amount of people know that I "meet celebrities", very few people know the means of how I go out and obtain pics with them and the autographs by specific methods. Only my closest friends and those who have visited when the room isn't a complete cluster you know what have seen my collection up close and I speak to them sometimes about "How cool it was meeting Jonathan Toews, or "Did Butkus look like he was gonna kick your a**?" a lot more than the autographed items. I don't like to brag about every item I have signed or the value of my collection. I like to talk about the experience in meeting the athlete and how they were up close more so the $$$ value in my collection.

Why would you be embarassed about collecting autographs? Are you that insecure with your self? Have that bad self esteem?

It's not like your collecting is harming anyone. It's not like you collect aborted baby fetuses or collecting stray cats that you torture sexually.

If the people/"friends" cant except the fact you collect autographs... you need to hang out with different people!

It's not a secret that I get some of my playbills this way, and I always use the excuse that I didn't stage door. But writing to people like Alan Rickman and David Tennant, that only my parents and sister know because they live with me otherwise I keep my mouth shut about it. I don't know I feel weird and nerdy talking about it with my friends (they're not very understanding about this sort of thing). I really only tell them about IPs and they kinda get that because theres a tv show that films 3 blocks from me all the time, and they know I love that show to bits so they don't pick on it too much. But to make a long answer short 3.

My parents think I'm a crazy person doing this and I remind them of my past hobbies which have cost a bit more money and they back down

My wife knows, but that's about it. I collected a little as a kid and just recently got back into it (to decorate the walls of my basement). It's a harmless, fun hobby but some people get down-right creepy about it. It makes it exciting to get the mail everyday and gives me some cool conversation pieces in my basement.
