...I was also wondering if you could fulfill a small request for such a big fan.
Could you please autograph the photo I have enclosed? (Please use the self-addressed stamped envelope for convenience.) Thank you!

The way I ask for an autograph is this: P.S. You can send me an autograph if you want.
If you're serious about getting the celebrity's autograph, then make it clear to them that you want one.

I usually make the first paragraph about them and how their work has affected/inspired me.

Second paragraph goes close to this:

"My sons, Justin and Jeremiah (5 & 3) are growing up, so before they get too big, I'm building them an autograph collection of my favorite musicians, athletes and celebrities-a little keepsake that Dad has put some time into, you know- and I'd love to add yours! So if it's not a problem, could you please sign my picture for us (or 'could I please have your autograph for us', if I don't send anything)? I would really appreciate it and so will they...in a few years, of course. :)

Thanks so much for your time, and your work, and have a great Summer!"

Something to that affect. Obviously, if you don't have kids, you can't use that :D but it may give you ideas. Never hurts to add why you collect autographs!

Good luck
Clint

I either say:
"If its not too much trouble can you please send a signed photograph"

Or

"I'd be extremely grateful if you could please send a signed photograph"
