iheartcelebs, I could never imagine selling one of my auto's, even if the celebrity passed away and the value shot up incredulously. I think a lot of people make hasty decisions after a celebrity dies with the money motive in mind, and regret it afterwards. I think its more special to keep something you know you wont get again! :)
What I meant was, if a museum wanted it or a foundation for the celeb, I would possibly do it. I would not sell it to any old collector!

Just clarifying!

I think the reason why there are so many 'quitters' is because this is such a convinent hobby to start, and drop. People start off by thinking 'its cool how you can get autographs from celebrity', then they begin to get bored and sell their little collections for a quick buck. Out Autograph for sale forum is a great example, it basically encourages people to drop their collection.

I would also like to make a point that selling off autographs from your collection sound sterotypically bad. But I do not belive it is a negativeas it depends what your intenstions is. Is it to make a quick buck, or to sell it in order to have money to get another autograph you would like?

Yeah I would never think of selling my collection. :shock: I've traded autographs that I've had doubles or triples of, but that's about it. I would never sell any of my Autographs either. ;-) I feel as a collector that by doing that your abusing the celebrity's generosity. They took time from their day to sign items for YOU & then the collector turns around and sells them. :cry: I don't see a problem with charity auctions though, Since the celebrity knows your planning on selling it for a good cause. I would be looking high & low for something else to sell, Before I resorted to "getting rid" of my collection. :lol:

I have collected since 1998, and have no intention of selling my collection. My husband has recently gotten into collecting autographs, and he also doesn't ever intend on selling his small (at the moment) collection. My mother was the person who got me interested in collecting, and she has not sold one of her autographs.

I do understand that some people need to sell for whatever reason, but I have no intention of ever selling my collection.

I would definatly never sell my collection ! I prize it so much, when we moved house it was all i cared about getting there safely! Although i can understand why some people do it as they are in dyer need of money for one reason or another. Im definatly keeping mine and passing it down ! :D

My collection is an heirloom for my two sons, Justin and Jeremiah. I plan on leaving them a lot more than that, but for now, I think they would cherish the collection I could pass down to them...uhhh...when they turn 18!

Now that I think of it, my youngest son is 4 years old, so I only have 14 more years of collecting, then I'll 'hang 'em up', I'll be 40, as I turn 26 today! :D . If they want to keep collecting, they can. (I hope they do!)

Well, I just started collecting, but still I intend to keep my collection forever... well at least until I die xD 'cuz I din't start collection to collect and sale only to earn money, I collect because when I get autograph it makes me feel a little bit closer to celeb ;) I can say that I'm kinda obsessed or smthing because when i watch a movie it's like " I've gotta have his/her' autograph" xD I don't understand people who are selling their "precious treasures", because they spent so much time to get what they have and sell it all in a moment. So, yeah I'm gonna keep my collection forever {thumb2}

Glad to see that there are still a few people out there who don't collect with the intention of giving away/selling their autographs to a 'foster home' one day :lol: as everyone has said it would be great to sit down with the kids one day and tell them how you obtained certain autographs, who the people were, why they were significant to you, etc. Autographs are much the same as holiday photos, in that they provide memories and stories to fondly recount.

Also hopefully one day I will be able to sit around with my grandchildren and tell them about each person. Then I will be more then happy to help them start their collection:)
Agreed! I hope one day I can pass them on and tell stories about people who are somewhat unknown or not known by EVERYONE at the moment, and people whose performance/music (the majority of mine will be/are Broadway related) has in some way moved me! (Sounds so corny, but true) And one day when a revival comes along, they can get so&so's autograph and then have both "Lucy's" or whatever character!
