I would not ever write that but whenever if they ever see that you write you collect autographs, they're probably gonna think you're not a fan..you just collect autographs of whoever. Just tell them in your letter that you are a huge fan of their work.

I've never mentioned that I collect. Besides, I only write to people I actually admire, so my letter focuses on works of theirs that I've enjoyed. Plus I always ask them to personalize to my name so they know I won't sell it (not too many people with my name {thumb2} )

Personally I don't mention it. I don't really talk about myself in my letters though, I try to just talk about the celebrity and why I like them. If other people want to mention it in their letters and it works for them then who am I to judge? Each to their own method I say {thumb2}

To be a collector is nothing to be ashamed of.
:roll: No-one said being a collector is something to be ashamed of - I just said that I prefer to say that I'm a fan in my letter (because that's what I am first and foremost), if you read my post properly. It creates a better impression. Not everyone out there has the same perception of a 'collector' - a lot of us know we don't sell, but there's people who think collector means buyer/seller. But hey, whatever, write what you feel suits you, not what another individual tells you to.

I would keep mentioning it, really.

If you don't say you're a collector, then that leaves room for them to assume.

Chances are, none of the people we write think that they will be our only autograph. :)

:? Well I normally mention it in my letters until I saw this on a website. Do you think it matters if I carry on mentioning it in my letters or should I just not mention it

Good God...
I've been collecting since 1994, have almost 13,000 autographs and have mentioned I collect autographs in every letter I've written. You don't have to cover up the honest truth to bump your success rate!

If you mentioned you were a dealer, I'd say that'd create a problem.

It can come across as impolite Jason. It would make it seem as if you want their autograph just for the sake of it or in order to sell it, and not because you're a genuine fan of their work.
Well I don't see any thing 'impolite' about this hobbey, I mean, we are autographs collectors arent we?
jason

Calm down, no offense was meant by what I said! :neutral: we are autograph collectors yes, but I feel that it's best not to mention that in a letter. The person reading it can become suspicious of one's motives and refuse an autograph. There's this negative generalisation that a 'collector', as opposed to a fan, just wants an autograph so they can eventually sell it and make money out of the celeb's generosity - but this is not true of a lot of us.I feel that stating you're a fan strengthens your letter far more than saying you collect.
