I just want to know if any one has herd back from a star writing a normal letter (no requests for autographs), but asking them questions.

You do not need a SASE. My friend wrote her a normal letter not asking for a autograph, and got a preprint back. I wrote her and did send a SASE and got an authentic autograph back.
