I also type my requests because my handwriting is sloppy, but in addition to doing all of the things already mentioned (especially personalizing the letter and avoiding a form letter), I would also recommending signing the letter with your signature in pen.

Looks to me like he bears a resemblance to 70's singer/songwriter Kenny Loggins.

Don't know for sure, though, as a search for Kenny Loggins in Google images does not produce this photo as a match.
