I'm sending to USA. Can I put in pounds to send to them so they can send it back. Or do I have to send dollars.

I'm from uk, and you can't get ircs here now. I want to send to the usa in a full a4 sized envelope. How many dollars shall I put in there for the reply?

I sent off an envelope today that weighed 0.343 kg or for Americans weighed 12.099 oz. I sent this from uk to us and I included 3 dollars for shipping back. Would this be enough for the person to send it back to me?
