Colin Firth, Authentic? please help!

Unread post by MammaMiaLover »

recently i recieved 3 autographs from Colin Firth, first being one that he sends out, the second two are ones i sent in the same envelope. i can tell they arent preprint as the one he sent you can see where the ink goes onto th photo, and also can tell its not autopen or stamped as all 3 are very slightly different like the dot on the 'I' is not in th same place etc, so what i would like to know is are they authentic or secreterial?
sadly probably secretarial but it would be great if authentic as he is such a great actor!
thanks guys!

also, for if you want to see, here are links for photos of the autographs:

I'm predisposed to be affectionate if someone's smaller, but if they're loathsome in the first five minutes they're loathsome" - Said by the great Colin Firth. I couln't agree more!

I believe Colin Firth's autograph through mail is not authentic. I had a post before studying his autograph. His in person success is completely different from mail success. Judging from the quick and frequent of his mail responses, it cannot be real.

Hi! ;-)

I agree with superletterfan, I'm used to think it was authentic too but I'm definitly leaning towards secretarial now. {down}

Here's some in person examples from AutographWorld:

And here's an inscribed one:

As you can see, the handwriting is similar but not exact. I would've said it's authentic if it were not for the obvious secretarial signature itself - Colin never signs like that. :? So, I'm leaning towards secretarial. :(

Unfortunately Zanne is right. Colin Firth's through the mail autographs are secretarial.

Colin Firth's TTm has been talked about many times before. My opinion has always been that they are secretarials. The scans from autograph world proves the point.

supperletterfan, if all of those examples you have posted are authentic---including the two at the bottom---then I am now leaning way towards authentic for mine.

When comparing mine to the two at the bottom, mine matches with the bottom right autograph "extremely" well. The Colin on mine is almost identical, right down to the L that curves a little to the right at the top. And looking at the autgraph on the bottom left---what little I can make out of it--the B and E in Best are an "exact" match to mine, practically identical.

As so many are telling me he doesn't sign ttm I find myself questioning it, but upon making comparisons with those two on the bottom, they are so close as to be a perfect match.

I'm not trying to confuse the situation or say anyone is wrong, I'm just saying after closely comparing mine to those two they look the same as mine.

I sent vv and didn't receive a reply until after filming wrapped and he had returned to the UK. That made me immediately question it's authenticity. But if you compare some celebs IP to their ttm authentics you will see their IP is a scribbled mess and their ttm is more legible and defined. I'm not basing my opinion on that alone, by any means, but it can definitely be the case when trying to compare IP to ttm.

Comparing the one at the bottom right to the ones at the top, you'll see what I am saying. The ones at the top are very scribbled, and that one at the bottom has much more definition by comparison.

Hi nightowl! ;-)

The ones at the bottom is from eBay - now I'm not saying that immediately means it's forged but as Colin is such a famous celebrity, his autographs get forged a lot. Also, I'm very sure those at the bottom which you're talking about was obtained TTM - it happens very often on eBay! Just yesterday I came across a Shia Labeouf "in person" autograph, which is exactly the ones he send out TTM, even the Indy photo!! So don't be fooled by "in person", there's a lot of scammers out there, and definitly not just on eBay. {thumb2} So I recommend not to compare to those as it's very possible that they're obtained TTM (via his agnecy) and just claimed to be "in person". Rather look at my scans from AutographWorld, especially the personalised one - he was obviously not in a tremendous rush otherwise he wouldn't have personalised it, but still the autograph doesn't look a thing like his TTM.

So I'm still quite positive they're secretarial TTM, unfortunately.

Good luck,
zanne

Hi, for all those pictures i got, most of them from Autographworld, the others are from Ebay (those sellers put these items for very expensive price, i guess they are authentic). Sorry if there some bad examples.

One of the bottom two, i think i got it from Signingdreams's Ebay shop (a reputable UACC regiestered dealer). (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/COLIN-FIRTH-SIGNE ... m153.l1262)

I know that this one looks like mail success. He claimed to get it in person, i think he could get it through mail and sell it as authentic. Some other dealers make the same mistake.

see this one:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Colin-Firth-signe ... 286.c0.m14

Clearly mail success, and the seller is "I am UACC Registered Dealer number 282 (Signed By The Stars) and AFTAL Approved Dealer #57. "

and

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Colin-Firth-St-Tr ... 286.c0.m14

He states: 'I am a member of the UACC as Alan Eady number 7552, and of The Autograph Council of Great Britain."
