Looks to me like his typical autopen signature. Was a certificate of authenticity included?

Can anyone else help? Is this real or not?

There was no certificate and they really want to know if it's real or not?

They said the seller had got the autograph in person.

I don't know on the authenticity myself, but to answer the question of "what's an autopen?"

It's basically a machine that "signs" a bunch of photos for the celeb, and they send them out. Meaning not authentic.

If you can post a scan of the full autograph, we could probably give you a better opinion.

I don't think that's authentic. The overall look is wrong, and to be more specific if you look very closely at the autograph you can see that the first part, (the part that look like a W) is separate from the second part. In any authentic examples I've seen these two part are always attached, and written without the 'pen' leaving the paper. And the vertical line is always done last, in this autograph it's seems attached to the first part.
Don't know how to explain it better. But here's an example of an authentic Johnny Depp autograph.

http://cgi.ebay.com/Johnny-Depp-Pirates ... 2a05fa8098

The seller has a few other Johnny Depp's up for sale, all authentic, and if you compare these with yours you should see what I mean. Even though the signatures vary a bit, some are more rushed then others, the basic make up of them is the same.

Just my opinion.

guilder1st - I think you're looking at it differently to how I'm seeing it. To me the vertical line is curling at the end and it is not apart of the second bit where the 'W', or Depp, starts. The 'W' seems continuous, but overall it is somewhat questionable. I also do not think it is an autopen, as I have not seen one like this.
