Thanks,

sorry if its not possible, I apologize.
But did you consider asking your dad?
Did he ever talk about meeting John Lennon?
Its something I think a lot of people would talk about at least a couple times over the years.
unfortunately, I never had a chance to meet him...so I cant say. So my opinion on this would be pointless. But looking at the sig & looking at a few examples I see on google, looks very similar, and with it being in faded pen & the placement. My gut says, it might be real.
But dont take my word for it... I am simply going off an opinion based on some details I can see....I have never got him before myself, so I cant say with too much certainty on this one.

No he never did meet any of The Beatles

He just used to buy the records new or second hand when he couldnt afford them so most of the second hand ones have scribbles and writing all over them. Its just this one looked like it might be a real autograph. Thanks for the reply!

WOW!
I think you just hit a jackpot there.
The siggy looks very similar to the photo posted by Isaiah.
If that's real, then congratulations.

John Lennon's sigature changed over the years so your example could be real. My IP John Lennon, I met him in NYC n he early 70's, looks nothing like yours. The difference is I watched him sign it using a macrame' bag for a writing surface. I would, however, be askimg some serious questions about the circumstnces of how it was acquired. Dates etc. before I got too excited.

The signature posted by the original poster is almost completely identical to John Lennon's signature prior to 1968, when he changed it significantly. If this autograph was obtained prior to late 1968, then I would be inclined to say that it was authentic. Compare it with the authentic example that I posted. I am almost certain that the original poster's signed copy of
Please Please Me is genuine.

You're right and I did not say that it is a fake. In fact I said it "could be real". One of the problems with saying that an item is authentic because it matches or comes close to others from a specific time period is that there are too many oppurtunities to forge autographs. I have a closet full of (20 or so) Beatle albums and several John Lennon solo albums on vinyl. All were produced in the early-mid 1970's and before. It would not be too difficult for a talented forger to sign John Lennon's name on any one of them. I do not mean to imply that this example is a forgery, I simply urge caution, I repeat that I said in my post that it could be real. In my years of collecting and sometimes being asked to look at autographs I have learned to answer the "is it real" question one of three ways (unless I actually see the item being signed): 1) It is definately a fake 2) It is probably a fake 0r 3) It is probably real. (With the emphasis on "probably.")
It is too bad that the autograpgh authenticating industry is under such (well deserved in my opinion) scrutiny.
I sincerly hope that it is real. The circumstances (being found in the fathers collection) actually ease my fears that it is a fake somewhat, but I have seen too many fakes to assume that regardless of the circumstances... Well, hopefully you get the point.

I agree that it is unwise to jump to conclusions, and to say that this is definitely authentic is perhaps inaccurate. However, I have seen many examples of John Lennon's signature. Compared to his pre-1968 signature, I can say that I strongly believe this to be authentic. Nonetheless, this signed album, if authentic is worth a minimum of $2,500 or so. This is definitely worth getting authenticated by Frank Caiazzo. He is a well-respected expert on the signatures of The Beatles. I believe that he charges about $50 or so, though I could be wrong on the amount.
Also, to the original poster: I am having trouble determining this from the photo. Is the album signed in pencil or a black ballpoint pen? Either way, it should be properly protected from fading, if it isn't currently. This is a very rare and desirable signature, if authentic.
