I would think it is real.
OK, it is a little weird, but it is also signed in thick pen and squeezed into small place (therefore somewhat distorted)..
Here is an IP example from Ryan
http://ryansautographs.blogspot.com/search?q=elton
and this is some fanclub card or something (probably PP, but it illustrates the sig OK). He also writes the mark under (x - kisses?) all the same.

I´d lean towards real, rather than not, but I of course may be wrong.

His signature can very quite a bit depending on the situation. Because of the tight margins you can tell he overcompensated by shortening his name and putting it on two lines. Still has the characteristics and flow of his signature though. It is most likely authentic.

Good analysis

Sorry Phil but in my opinion, I do not think this is an authentic Elton John auto. As you know, 99 percent of my autos are music and Elton is one that I would love to add to my collection. In all my examples and research on his autograph, I believe yours to be secretarial. In all the examples I have, the 2 consistent characteristics in his sig have been the E in Elton and the J in John. Your E and J are so different from any known examples. There are other issues I have with it but the E and the J stand out.
Sorry I have been out of touch, I will email you about BM in a day or so

Hey Greg,
thanks for your reply.
Well, I thought the same, because in all other examples the J is without a "-" on the top.
But what makes me a bit hopefuller is the dedication as it seems to be kind of his handwriting.
Have a look on this dedication
http://img830.imageshack.us/i/img0320a.jpg/ it looks nearly the same. Especially the "with".
Just my thought
Waiting for your email man
Best,
Phil

The signature isn't authentic, and doesn't match anything close, even the handwriting. You can't say the signature was rushed when someone took the time to print his name. That is just not thinking clearly.
