They are generally very good, but I suspect that they don't always check ALL of the items over with a fine tooth-comb, so like with any autographs I would say do your research first and make your decision. No matter who was selling an item, I would make sure I was comfortable with the piece I was buying.
Having said that, I've bought two items from Autograph World in the past, and I was very happy with their service.

They look fine. Just because they are consignments does not mean they are not "authenticated" by AW, their reputation is on the line with every item they sell, consignment or not. With that being said, you should do your homework with any autograph you purchase anyway, regardless of where or who it comes from. The best way to authenticate any autograph is to know it's history and establish its provenance, which AW can usually do for you when you ask.

If you're not sure about an autograph, email the website founders...
I was a bit nervous about a bid I made on Kristen Stewart, but JD confirmed it for me that it was authentic..
They're generally to be known to only have authentics, and if they notice one that isn't authentic they probably take it off their website
Yes anyone can send in consignments, but they check them before posting them on the website
And yes sometimes they slip up, they're just people too

I have purchased with them for the first & last time. Bob Jones is a shocking & rude man to deal with. After my experience with him via email I will have nothing to so with that site ever again, no matter how good something looks

I have emailed him dozens of time... with dozens of questions when I first got on the site
and he never ever answered me rudely ever
I was a bit of a noob in the world of buying autographs and he was extremely helpful and patient with me

They've been going downhill the past few years. They do indeed buy autographs from other sellers. They also have loads of fakes listed on their site as of late. Not only that but they have tons of TTM autographs that they claim were obtained in-person and use signature piece consignments in their original auctions. Very shady business.
You have to be very careful shopping for autographs anywhere, but AW has now lowered their standards and it makes it that much more difficult when looking for an authentic piece.
