Hi there! As part of my Project Birthday Present, detailed in the thread titled "Mailed 31 LORs!", I hoped to get Davy Jones' autograph for my friend. I even sent a photo and $5 as per the instructions on his website. This was only days before the news that we all know: Davy Jones passed away at the age of 66 from a heart attack. :(

So I was searching online and found something for sale. Here is the photo and the back-story (in italics) to go with it, and the question: Is this authentic?

This autograph was signed by Davy Jones at the famous Steel Pier in Atlantic City, New Jersey, in 1971.

I remember the day my friend and I went to the Steel Pier to see Davy Jones, who was appearing there in the Marine Ballroom. He was singing without the Monkees at the time.

His itinerary included songs from the Monkees, as well as contemporary songs from the 1940s and 1950s to a mixed audience of various ages. Of course, he was absolutely adorable!

After the show, we went outside of the Ballroom in the hopes that Davy would come out to sign autographs. To our surprise, there he was, with all of his charm, good looks and courteous demeanor.

He showed no hesitation with personally signing his autograph for me. In fact, Davy signed one side of my paper and in realizing that he may have signed it a bit too small, he then proceeded to turn over the paper to sign it more legibly, clearer and larger for my personal satisfaction.

I then asked him if it was alright if I could give him a hug. He then gave me a big hug and then gave me a kiss on the cheek. Boy, was I in seventh heaven! I will always remember that day.

When word of his death arose, it was nothing short of total shock. I perceived him living a long time, as he was so into health and working out. I believe that it was his time. Davy, rest in peace. You will always be in our hearts!

As his soul has been set free, I have decided to set my cherished autograph from Davy Jones free, as well, so someone else can enjoy it.
