Stan Musial disappointing failure. RANT! lol

Last week i sent a request to Stan Musial, since i saw hes been signing a lot recently, and i sent a nice, personal handwritten letter. I explained how im in high school, play baseball, and look up to him, and asked if i could please have is autograph. 9 days later i got my SASE back, with my index card, and LOR returned unsigned.

I completely understand how getting an autograph is a privilege, and it is time consuming, and not the celebrities job to reply. That being said, i do feel that if they are going to go through the trouble of opening it up, looking for money, and spend the time to reseal it and send it back unsigned, it would be nice to sign one thing. Signing some for free but not others is annoying, and trying to squeeze money from people is unnecessary. Sign if you want to be nice, otherwise have a standard price.

Any thoughts are welcome, i just felt like putting my opinion out haha

U have 3 points for you.....

First... he is not the one opening his mail, so please don't blame him.

Second... Save your money. You will get a price sheet back with prices, or just go to the stan the man website and you will see th eprices there. The people that are saying they are getting him for free, I just dont buy it. His wife died a few months ago, so I would think the last thing he is thinking about is signing fanmail. (JUST MY OPINION)

Third... Why shouldnt athletes/celebs sign for a fee? Yeah it stinks for those of us who are true fans, but with so many people getting autographs just so they can put them on ebay and make an easy buck on them, thats why they charge. The might as well make the money for signing their own name, and not let someone else make it. Most athletes also give the money to a charity, so its going to a good place if that is the case.

Happy collecting.....

Don't send the Money I sent 10 and he didn't sign. And I sent to his house. He doesn't open his mail because I'm pretty sure he would sign.

If your going to spend time to go through all your mail withing 2 days of it arriving, you clearly have no objection to signing, and it just reflects poorly on you.

Now im going to resend it, and include $10. Congrats Stan, you will have $10 not going to my college fund, happy?

Are you remotely serious? You want to bag on a 90 year old man because you couldn't fleece him for a signature?

1) Check out Stan's topps/upper deck certified stuff from the past 3 years. You'll see a sharp decline in his ability to sign. I'm sure he has good days and bad days. Also consider he battles Alzheimer's Disease. Oh and BTW.....he's 90!

2) He doesn't handle his mail. A combo of the people that work at Stan the Man Inc, his agent, and his grandson handle the mail. Luck of the draw who you get and who has him sign the stuff. You lost.

3) Trying to squeeze money from people? How about YOU. His site has a mailing policy with prices and yet you ignore it and try and squeeze a free auto from him. Your like somebody racing down the road going 80 in a 55 and when you get a ticket complain because "the 3 cars in front of me did it too". Follow his posted prices/policy and I'm sure you'll get an auto.

Honnestly I agree with you, I sent my loooonnng lor sase and a card and $11.00 (because I saw someone else get one for $10) and I got it back unsigned... Yeah he is 90 and and probably can't sign to well... I hate people that complain because people sign and charge money. Grant it some people like grandkids and stuff just pocket the money but some people actually use the money to help kids/ and causes in need.

He's 91 (almost 92), cut him some slack. I think he's earned the right to charge for autographs. Money wasn't given out like it is today back when he was playing. Most guys had to get a job after they retired. Get over life being fair.

To chadallen, believe me or don't believe me but a few weeks ago Stan signed this for me absolutely free

as for everyone else, I don't know why Stan is hit or miss but he is. That is an accepted part of this hobby. For instance, I have gotten very lucky with some rare signatures but have never heard back from some of the so-called "easy signers".

Stan does not go through his own mail, but even if he did it is his right what he wants to sign and what he doesn't want to sign. He is a legend and a great ambassador for the game of baseball.

617ttmdan has the right to feel the way he feels.

On the other hand, everyone brownnosing Stan Musial, relax, he doesn't know you're alive, and he never will know that you're alive. No use getting your panties in a bunch for someone that doesn't know you exist.

I'm sorry to hear about your failure. But I disagree with people who are quick to doubt other people's successes just because THEY have not been successful. I did not know Musial charged for his autograph. I sent him a baseball card c/o the Cardinals, when he did not respond, I sent him a second request. About six months ago, I received BOTH requests back. He did not sign the cards I sent him, but in each case he sent his own 4x6 card with an authentic autograph (I could tell they were authentic and not pre-prints because they were not signed on the exact same spot and although the signatures were the same they had slight variations). I also received a YOGI BERRA success by writing him c/o the Yankees. So, yes. Some of these legends do sign FREE through the mail...
