getting Jerry Lewis
so, I know jerry uses a secretary almost always, if not every time. but I was wondering if anyone knows a way to get HIM to actually sign something? I wanted to send him my copy of his book for a signature, but I don't want his sec signing it. do you think if I politely request an authentic signature that I could possibly get one? he means so much to me and I planned on sending a nice letter anyway. and I know people send books to people but I'm scared that I may not get mine back if it's ignored! thanks for the help...

Re: getting Jerry Lewis
In all honesty, everyone who writes to him sends him nice letters about how much they admire him and how much he means to them and they almost certainly get Sec replies, so I really don't think you'd be any different. It's a pain when you know someone only sends Sec responses but sadly, if they do, it doesn't matter how much of your heart and soul you pour out in a letter, you'll almost certainly get the same. Tbh, I'd say don't waste your postage, the only option is if you happen to bump into him in person (and I don't know how likely that would be, or even if he still signs IP) but if you do want to send, as you say, you run the double risk of possibly losing your book (if you don't include the correct postage or if the postal service lose it along the way) or only getting a Sec reply back which isn't really worth the cost.
I hope my 2 pence-worth into this discussion helps sway you, but if not, good luck anyway!

Re: getting Jerry Lewis
You need to do something over and above an autograph request ! Autograph seekers are requesting something of a celebrity but are not giving anything in return except adulation. Go online and find something of theirs long lost, buy it and send it to them. Have an artist draw a portrait of a family member, say a deceased child, their spouse, a current or beloved passed pet. Ask nothing in return and see what happens. David.

I was pretty much thinking those same things! had to ask for other people's opinions in case someone has had some kind of experience or something. thanks!!carlosreddevil wrote:In all honesty, everyone who writes to him sends him nice letters about how much they admire him and how much he means to them and they almost certainly get Sec replies, so I really don't think you'd be any different. Sorry ... did you just suggest sending a drawing of someone's dead child? Really?drawntastic wrote:You need to do something over and above an autograph request ! I would say go for it! You never know. I sent Dick Van Dyke's autobiography to him with a very sincere letter telling him about how similar our early lives were and how much I respected him, and although he pretty much only sends secs, he authentically signed my book and even put in a few words referring back to the letter I sent. The way I see it is you may lose your book and postage if he doesn't respond or his sec does, but if he DOES respond, you've gained a treasure! Books are replaceable, but an authentically signed one really isn't!

Several years ago i got an order for a book on Lassie in the movies and on TV. (i run a used bookshop) Amazingly, the address to ship the book was to June Lockhart ! I put in a note to her that read: 'Here is your book and thank you for the order. Don't skip to your part, start at the beginning ! ' I'll bet she laughed at that !

Re: getting Jerry Lewis
I have honored portrait requests to place angel wings on a deceased child. I got a letter from a woman this very year who will not take a family portrait with the living members of her family because her deceased child can't be in the photo. I suggested three or four ways to incorporate that little one into a drawing. I've drawn many pets who are no longer with their 'parents' The tears that result are happy, bittersweet tears. I just finished an art project this month where i drew five poses two times each of a grandmother who passed away. The payee had a party and 10 family members each got a portrait. When I gave the drawings to the woman who ordered them, her little girl ran up and hugged me, a total stranger, for drawing her great grandma !

I just got an artwork request ten minutes ago on my 'departed' theme. Here is the text. You just never know where and how people might choose to honor their loved ones ! So again regarding Jerry Lewis or anyone you wish to get an autograph or letter from, establish a connection !! Stand out from the pile !
'Your work is amazing! I am looking to have a portrait done...for Christmas ...a little different than the pictures I seen on you site..I want a picture of my grandma standing with Jesus and her experience of her first Christmas in heaven...there is a poem 'My First Christmas in Heaven' and I want the picture to look how the poem describes...would you be able to do something like that...also wanting color, not sure if this is too big of a request...let me know what you think..thanks!'
