That's 20 mil less then what you first posted up the thread . Seems like the Yankees lowered their offer haha.dfreely wrote:Josh Hamilton picks up the AL MVP. I like the choices with both leagues.
Detroit signs Victor Martinez, 4 years and $50 million. Giants resign Huff, 2 years and $22 million.
Yankees latest offer to Jeter is 3 years and $45 million, supposedly their final offer and still a lot more than he deserves IMO. It's like he doesn't even realize that he's 36 years old, arguably the worst defensive shortstop in baseball and had a slash line of .270/.340/.370 last season.

Re: 2010-2011 MLB Offseason Thread
Apparently the Yanks have refused "arbitration" for Jeter, and have told him to sound out other offers from around the league. Why is Jeter doing this??? It seems like insanity to me....

Re: 2010-2011 MLB Offseason Thread
I haven't been following the Jeter situation much, but it does seem interesting. The Yankees approach towards Jeter, as being reported here, reminds me of how they forced Bernie Williams into retirement. I'm too much of a Red Sox fan to care a whole lot about the Yanks, but the way they treat their aging icons is horrible.

Re: 2010-2011 MLB Offseason Thread
They're treating him too well if anything. We're talking about a 36-year-old shortstop here, arguably the worst defensively in baseball and coming off a season where he batted .270/.340/.370. Anyone else would be fighting for a bench spot, and the Yankees are guaranteeing him 3 years and $45 million. Bernie Williams only asked for a guaranteed spot on the team, which is a lot more sensible than what Jeter is demanding.
Re: 2010-2011 MLB Offseason Thread
According to nbc sports, Jeter wants $25 million a year for at least five years. Madness

Re: 2010-2011 MLB Offseason Thread
The Twins have "won" the right to negotiate with Tsuyoshi Nishioka from Japan.
His numbers last year were pretty good, and he's supposed to be solid defensively. Not a ton of power, but he can hit and get on base. Don't know how that will transfer to the MLB though.

Re: 2010-2011 MLB Offseason Thread
I haven't seen any videos of Nishioka's defense, but ever since Kaz Matsui signed with the Mets back in the early 2000's, I've always had second thoughts about any Japanese infielder's overall defensive capabilities. I'm not sure if it still applies, but I believe (all? most?) Japanese infielders didn't backhand back then, which led to Matsui being an downright awful defensive SS in the MLB, even though he was a Gold Glover in Japan.
