The Winter Olympics

Unread post by dfreely »

AKA "the other Olympics". Anyone planning to tune in?

No one here seems to know it starts tonight, and NBC already announced they're going to lose about $250 million dollars from the event. Makes me wonder how many people will actually watch.

I'd love to see this, but since they switched to digital, we never got around to getting a convertor box. I guess some Luger got killed today during practice. :( Fine way to start the olympics.

I watched the opening ceremony. It was 2 am here in Poland when it stared but it was totally worth to watched.
I really liked it :) It was awesome! Especially Nelly&Bryan's performance :)

Go team Poland!

I missed the live broadcast but ended up watching the repeat at 3am. Thought it was okay.. the fiddle/tap dancing segment seemed a bit out of place. The ending was also a bit awkward when that fourth torch didn't go up, and the show just sorta stalled for awhile.

Looks it did okay with the ratings as well - 34 million viewers.

Well NBC did spend around 800 million for the tv rights, so making 550 million off of it, I'm guessing alot of people will be watching. I will be watching the speedskating events mainly because I technically own 0.01% of the USA speedskate team GO TEAM!!!

I wonder how it'll do the rest of the way though. Opening ceremonies can always be expected to do okay, but the competitions themselves can be something else entirely. It also helped that it was running against Friday repeats.
