Auction in March

Unread post by plhepner2 »

My civic organization is holding an auction the first week of March. I am hosting this on EBay. I've received various items from companies but have recently looked into the "celebrity" arena. I have written about 20 celebrities thus far in addition to your general shows. I've written Wheel of Fortune and The Price is Right with positive responses. I haven't heard from Jeopardy yet. Although it has only been about one month so far so I'm not getting over-anxious yet. What are some tips and guidance anyone can give me to ensure a more positive response from a celebrity? Do you think trying to find a "contact me" on their website might work? What are your suggestions? I appreciate it!!

Hi plhelper {up}

Firstly, best of luck with your auction :P

My best couple of bits of advice would be to explain carefully in your letter about who you are collecting for, why you are collecting for them, and what they will do with the money you make.

I personally do not usually email to get donations, but for the few I have, I often find the "contact us" pages are really helpful, especially if it lists a mailing address.

In preference I would always mail as opposed to emailing, but maybe that's just me!!!

When you write to a celeb, make sure you keep the letter brief, and be sure to ask for what you are after. Many celebrities get panicked when approached by charities - in case they want hard cash!!!!

I always ask whether it might be possible for them to donate a signed photograph or other memorabilia. By doing that I have not just received pictures, but instead - DVDs, CDs, books, posters, artwork, clothes, costumes, scripts etc etc.

I have accrued somewhere in the region now of 500 autographed photos and other stuff, and I have been collecting for 9-10 months.

I hope this helps you, but if you need any further advice, please let me know!!!

Cheers,

Ian :mrgreen:
