Some advice needed...

Unread post by blitzkreig »

Hi there guys some people might know me from a while back when I was asking tips about fundraising and a letter template and thanks to you all, we have raised £10,000 in a week's worth of fundraising for the victims of the tsunami.

This time, I was hoping to get a grant and some funding to the Football Foundation to help me enter myself to a soccer school this summer holidays (it costs £495.00 which me and my parents cannot afford). Unfortunately, they dont support individuals and the only way that they could help is by suggesting a fundraising activity or something related.

Now doing another fundraising is so enjoying and rewarding, but also very stressful. This is why I have decided to sell off some of my own autographed items. Besides, all I need is £500.00 and hopefully I can go to a soccer school with high hopes.

Right, thanks for those who patiently read my story lolz my questions are:

1. Where do I start, what next after that and what next finally after that?

2. I dont want to disclose my age but I can say that I am under 18. How can I sell these items online when I cant make a paypal account- therefore, I cant make an eBay account too?- I dont want to give my credit card details for those who want to pay because of fraudsters.

3. I am going to write to some celebs myself. There was a couple of people in this forum who recieved a cheque from a celeb as a donation. How would I put this in words in my letter? AND how can I make it as SAFE as it can be in terms of security? Do I have to give my account details?

Thanks everyone for all your help in advance.

By the way, I am thinking of selling these items: (you may notice that theyre sporty coz I love my sport)

-A signed Steve Redgrave golf shirt which he wore in a charity match
-A signed bandana of Roger Federer in a match while playing in last year's Wimbledon competition (i dunno wich one because her mother Linette gave this to me)
-A signed postcard of Lord Sebastian Coe (I have at least 3)
*And my prized posessions:
-An England shirt signed by Steven Gerrard
-A Real Madrid pennant with 8 signatures including Raul, Ronaldo, Casillas and Zidane (the others I cant make out who)

4. Would you reckon Ill make £500.00 with these?

EDIT: All those who are interested, please let me know by PM'ing me or posting on this thread thanks :)

Hi blitzkreig {up}

I still think eBay is the way to go to make quick money. Unfortunately you will not be able to sell them as charity items which may well reduce the values :?

£10,000 was a great deal of money to raise {thumb2} This wasn't just your total right? How many were fundraising to get that total?

You do not need a PayPal account to sign up as an eBay seller. You can just choose to accept cheques (checks) or postal orders (money orders). I know this because my mum sells regularly but won't sign up for PayPal!!!!

I would suggest you get your items listed, and somewhere in the text tell people why you need the money. This might encourage people to bid more generously :D I am not sure if the items you listed in your post would be sufficient to raise you £500 though. I think you will need a few more items to bump the total up a bit :wink:

Once your auction is online, please feel free to post details here so that other Fanmail.boz members will be able to bid :P

Good luck!

Hey there Ian thanks for the ideas

As I have said, I am under 18 so there is no way that I can setup an eBay account-help please?

Yes about the fundraising there was a lot of people involved in that- I was only responsible on the 'helping out' and organising team. It was all kinds of activities in a week- sponsorship runs, activities, prizes, tournaments- even a karaoke contest! It was so successful, it was on the local news!

What did you mean by getting my items listed?

Hey could you help me on my other question:

I'm sure that youve seen some feedback regarding this. What should I disclose in my letter when asking them for money? And how because it sounds quite cheeky.

Thanks {up}

By getting your items 'listed' I think Ian means getting them listed on eBay.

Also, because I am also under 18, I use my Dad's eBay account and receive payment via cheques. When I contact the buyer to confirm payment, I get them to make the cheque payable to me. :wink:

Hope this helps!

Hi blitzkreig {up}

It looks that you will have to get somebody else to set up an eBay account for you then. How about family members?

Also, you cannot really ask for money :lol: All the cash/cheque donations I have received have been instigated by the celebs themselves.

thanks chewytoffee and ian for your help. ill try to ask my dad to setup an eBay account for me and then only allow checks and postal orders as methods of payment.

to ian: yea i thought that it would be too cheeky to ask for money-if i was that person who reads it, i wont reply to it myself so ive seen it in another perspective.

i just hope that ill be able to raise £500 in a month coz thats all i have :D
