1st Moor Allerton Scout Group charity

Hi all,

Well, I thought I would let you all know about the charity I am going to try to raise funds for, by gaining signed photo's /memorabilia. How many of you knew that the Cub Scouts was a charity?

Anyway, each Scout group has its own charity number, as it needs to maintain its own scout hut, and purchase equipment etc (unless that particular Scout group comes under a church). As a charity, they rely upon donations from the public, as well as fund raising days.

As you may know, the Cub Scouts gives children the chance to learn new skills, and also to try many different activities such as exploring, camping, canoeing, and swimming. If they are successful in their new skill or activity, they then receive a badge, which they can wear with pride on their uniform.
If the Cub Scouts were not there, then most of these children would never get the chance to try these new experiences.

I know that on the big list of charities, mine is nowhere near the top, as I donate to the Cancer charities on the street. However, as this one is very close to my heart (My son goes to the Cub Scouts I am raising for, and I used to be a Cub Scout, a long long time ago) it was a natural choice to help them.

I will be posting the successes in the feedback section, which we have had a couple so far,and also will update on here how we actually do when we go to auction (depending on what we actually get will determine where we will hold the auction. Once again, when the location is known, I will update here, so anyone wishing to can participate).

Excellent work Stuart

I too am fundraising this way for May Hill Huntley Scout Group in Gloucestershire. I have contacted all Premiership football clubs, and had a positive response from the majority of them, including a fantastic signed pennant/flag from Bolton - the best item yet.

Also found that Noel Edmonds pictures go well on Ebay. Think I got around £20 for mine.

Would be interested to see your success list. I am just starting to send out a new batch of letters, so will post here my success stories.

I think I might have started a Scouts charity collecting trend on here!

I have been collecting for the Scout Association in the UK now for about 2 years on and off, however my time on Fanmail.biz has been very limited for several months due to work.

Since January 2007 I have also taken on the role for of media development manager for the Scout Association, and I will be the Media Centre Manager on Brownsea Island for the Jamboree / International Media Weekend / Sunrise Ceremony on 1st August.

During my couple of years of collecting I have managed to accrue about several thousand pounds for them from autograph collecting. If you want any advice, please let me know!!
