Basic question from a beginner :)

Unread post by snow3662 »

I would like to try to collect autographs from the Harry Potter cast, and thanks to this site, I have found a whole cast list and their addresses, which is great. Unfortunately, almost all of the cast lives in the UK, while I live in the US. So I'm not quite understanding all of this IRC stuff.

For example, if I wanted to write to emma watson, I would have an envelope addressed to her, would I only need one US stamp, or should I put 2? I am only planning on sending a trading card and a short letter. Also inside of the envelope I would put a SASE, but could someon explain the whole IRC thing? How many do I need to buy for each letter, and where do I get them?

Thanks a bunch :)

Hello,

All the IRC stuff is explained in
viewtopic.php?f=117&t=14171

IRCs work out very expensive compared to stamps, so if you know anyone in the UK who can buy and send you stamps, or know somebody who's coming over here on holiday, then I'd strongly recommend doing it that way. Plus the actor or their agent won't then have to queue up at the post office to exchange the IRCs for stamps, even as a not-especially-busy person I find queuing in UK post offices a thoroughly dispiriting experience.

I posted a list of the current prices from the UK to the US on this thread the other day
viewtopic.php?f=117&t=215838, they've only just gone up so will be current for some time yet.

If you check the other threads on the feedback forum about Emma Watson, I think you'll find that you'll get a pre-print, the same is true for some of the others, so do a bit of searching and save yourself some money and effort, unless you want pre-prints. I'm not a HP fan, but have written to a lot of the people who have been in the HP films and have received, as far as I can remember, all of them back, so good luck collecting.

Emma Watson generally is a pre-print, yes. Same with Rupert Grint through the mail (and Dan, unless you catch him via venue on a good day). The only way to get the trio for sure is to either pay or get in person. A lot of the rest of the cast will send genuine autographs though!

Good luck
