On the 17th of December the Melbourne premiere of The Golden Compass was held at the Rivoli Cinemas in Camberwell (a suburb of Melbourne). It was more of an exclusive advanced screening of the film rather than an actual premiere, as there were no major stars of the film there (apart from Magda Szubanski, whom I only saw once we were in the cinemas).
A colleague of mine had actually given me her pass to attend the event late that afternoon, as she could not attend. So, it was a very last-minute rush to organise a friend to join me and getting over to the cinemas after work, but I made it!
I did notice a few known Australian celebrities there - mainly TV presenters and there were a few others whom I kind of recognised but couldn't remember their names
. Many of them were talking to others, and obviously I didn't want to disturb them.I did get the chance to ask for a quick photo and autograph with comedian Jimeoin while he was there. He signed an index card for me (one of my index cards was lined on both sides, the other one was blank - I couldn't get the blank one out of my folder as it was stuck!)

Oh, and the film was pretty good (even though I haven't read the book and the fact that I'm not really into fantasy movies that much!)
