Buzz Aldrin Signing

Unread post by Selise »

There was a book signing in Ridgewood, NJ on the 13th of Sept. All you had to do was buy his book and he'd sign just books for free. Considering he charges $250+ for his signature on his website, and he doesn't do the "free" signing, I considered the $27 for the book practically free and reasonable for his autograph.

I'll post pictures as soon as I can figure out how to get them off my cell phone.

:) And I'll photo the books so you can see his auto.

What do you mean he doesn't sign for free? I got him to sign an 11X14 just last month at a luncheon honering him. I notice that when you usually ask for only one autograph ( unlike dealers who have stacks of photos ) and you give them a name to personalize, the celebrity is cool to sign a "free" graph.

I've met him a few times, and he has never signed for anyone for free. He has always politely declined to sign, he'll direct you to his website for autographs. At least he did in my last few experiences.

I only had 1 book I wanted signed at the book signing - it wasn't like I was there with more than 1 book. And the previous times I met him, I didn't have anything other than the program for the event for him to sign, which he did not.

My mom got his auto back in the 70's, but now he does charge.

well at least you finally got his autograph but its not cool of him to be like that thou to always charge for a autograph, your a fan and he should be polite and just scribble his name for you. i like buzz and all but i have a problem with people who are very into a cash grab. at signings most people will charge which is fine but at a regular event saying no i wont sign go to my website and pay 250 for a autograph , that is ridiculous.

you all fail to realize that he owes you NOTHING
you are insignificant to him.
he still had to work hard to get to where he was....without the help of fans.
and actor or actress get where they are because of fans....
so I would get that engrained into you mind that in professions where people get to where they are(a place of celebrity) because of the hard work and sacrifice theyve put into their career owe you nothing

now about the charging $350 for an autograph.
i guess he resents people getting him to sign something, just to turn around and sell it.
it is the cashgrabbers who go out and ruin that kind of stuff for everyone. im sorry to say it but that is why he is being a p rick about it; and there is nothing we can do about it.
you are very lucky to get his autograph so congratulations....and to those who have been rejected....GET OVER IT. it is not the end of the world and nothing to get your nickers in a knot over.
thank you

Excuse me, but my TAXES paid for that little trip he made. Unless he paid to have his own Apollo Spacecraft made, then he owes just as much (or more) to the American taxpayers than the movie stars do to their fans. If Astronauts don't want the celebrity that goes along with the profession (politicians as well), then have them pay for their own ride next time.

ok
how about this one.
if you are one of the most famous people in the world and everyone wants your autograph....
i get you to sign something for me....then i go and sell it for $500....wouldn't you want in on the action???
IF what the first thing i said is voided by you taxpaying...then you can't argue that he should just give you a virtual $500 in a penstroke...
I don't blame him.
he should charge more.
GET OVER IT.

I honestly don't care if he charged 10,000 bucks a signature. You just argued that he had achieved his success and celebrity on his own and didn't owe anybody anything. I just pointed out that my tax dollars paid for that 'lil rocket he took to the moon. He can refuse to sigh anything he wants. However, he's not allowed to make the argument that his success had nothing to do with us tax-payers.

As your name is Ugaman72 ( a LOT of users use the year of their DOB in their usernames ) , that sort of points to you being , what ? , 37 ? As Buzz did the Gemini mission in 1966 , the Apollo in 1969 , I'm sort of of the opinion that your tax dollars paid for precisely NONE of the cost of sending Buzz into space . Please feel free to correct me .

And if your tax dollars DID pay towards his space missions , so what ? You paid towards an American doing his job , just like you pay for a Police man , a teacher , a parking officer , and just like his taxes would be paying for you if you did any of these jobs . He still owes you nothing , nada , zilch .

While I would love his autograph ( I would have got one for the $27 price of the book if he charged that over here in the UK ) , I choose not to pay the sort of money he charges - but that doesn't mean I don't understand the reason why he charges it . How good would it be to be the friendly sort who gives free autographs all the time , only to see them sold for hundreds of dollars weeks later ? How proud must you be ? How glad are you that all your hard work and training has gone towards getting somebody ( who has probably never achieved anything in their life ) a brand new 42" plasma TV , or an holiday in France ?

The reason our hobby has started on the slippery slope down the pan is that there are a LOT of people out there who will get autos and charge stupid money for them . And who can blame the celebrities / actors / astronauts / writers and anybody else decided that they will either have nothing to do with autographs , or that they will make thier own pennies before the sharks get involved ?
