Hi everyone :D

On Thursday evening the Melbourne premiere of The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor was held at Hoyts Cinemas in Melbourne Central.

I had no idea that it was on that evening, nor did I realise that stars Brendan Fraser and Luke Ford would be walking the red carpet! It was only when I received a call from a friend of mine at about 3:00pm that I found out that there was a premiere (the premiere was scheduled to start from about 5:45pm or so). I was at work when I got the news, so rushed straight over there after I finished (about 5:00pm) and was luckily able to get a good front row position for the red carpet.

Unfortunately, as I received the news fairly late I wasn't prepared! If I had a bit of time I would have brought along a photo or even bought one of his DVD's to sign but I just wanted to ensure that I had a decent spot along the red carpet. I do normally carry with me a mini Sharpie and a few index cards, so at least I had something for the stars to sign!

I was thankful however, that the premiere wasn't on the large scale that it was for the Mamma Mia premiere that was held the previous month. The premiere mainly concentrated on the area around level 3 of the building, so if you were passing through on one of the other levels you probably wouldn't have realised that a premiere was actually occuring.

Anyway, I did manage to score a total of 3 autographs at the premiere - including Brendan Fraser's. I also was able to get a photo with Brendan (although blurry) and was able to have a quick chat with him as he actually asked me for my name and whether my camera was a phone (which it isn't but a lot of people I know have asked me the same question).

Here's Brendan's autogaph:

And here are the other two autographs I received:

Matt Welsh (Olympic swimmer)

Tim Ferguson (TV personality)

Here are a few photos taken on the night. Due to the late notice I didn't have my good camera with me, so the pictures aren't the best of quality:

That's an awesome success. Did you see the movie yet? I thought it was very good, almost better then the 2nd. Even though they used a different actress to play Rachel Weisz's Evelyn, she did a really good job.

mymymy - I am surprised that there isn't a Mummy 3 premiere in the UK. I was very lucky to be even told of the event, so luck was definitely on my side that day. Good luck in getting Brendan's autograph sometime in the future!

guilder1st - no I haven't seen the movie yet. It's not released here until the 11th of September, so its another week away.

Thanks for your comments. All the best.

Great success nowandagain! You got a few nice snaps! And Brendan has a very nice IP autograph! I am suprised :) I still don't really think Melb Central is the best place for premiers...but better than not having them! :p

ha ha ha. I sat next to Tim Ferguson on a tram just the other day...I can't remember which day, but some time in the last 5 days :p I didn't talk to him though, he seemed very edgy or something. He had sunnies on (and had a walking stick for some reason!) and kept look around nervously at everyone, and if you met his gaze he looked away. Then his phone rang and he started chatting on that. It was strange. I guess maybe he just didn't want to talk to anyone or be recognized.

Thanks Sai! I agree, Melbourne Central isn't the best place for a premiere. However, the set up for this premiere was much more low key and didn't interfere with the flow of traffic in the centre as it primarily went through the level 3 area only. It wasn't chaos like the Mamma Mia premiere where everything was blocked off.

Tim did have a walking stick with him when I met him at the premiere of Mamma Mia the other month, not sure why though (he must have a reason for carrying one). He was probably one of the nicest people to meet on the red carpet, very perky and always keeping the crowd entertained. It sounds really strange of the way he was acting, he must have had something on :?

And to Josie and WookieeLover - thanks for your replies! All the best :D

Yes I know he normally is extremely nice at the premiers and all. I didn't mind his behavior, as I would expect some days he just wouldn't want to be disturbed. It would be hard being recognized all the time. I was just curious about his behavior as like you said he is such a pleasant person. I just guess he wasn't up to talking to strangers that day ;)
