On Saturday , I went to the Bradford International Film Festival to try for John Hurt , who was getting some award and doing a screen talk and introducing one of his films . While I couldn't really afford to go to the talk , I still hoped to meet him around . Got there real early and waited for about an hour and half / two hours , before he arrived in a cab . After about 5 minutes , he got out . He was very friendly ( always been told he was ) , signed anything put in front of him . I got my Hellboy 2 DVD cover ( already signed by Guillermo del Toro ) , Contact video cover , my wife's Harry Potter DVD cover ( already signed by Richard Griffiths and Julie Walters ) and a bit of an odd choice - a book about the Elephant Man , Joseph Merrick , who John had played in the film of the same name .
Very chuffed I met him , one of my biggest wants .
No pics , sorry .

Awesome success! Hurt is a great actor!
Nothing odd about getting him in your Elephant Man book. He was brilliant in the role as John Merrick.

More , I think , that it is a book from the early 80s and , while the film has just been released and is mentioned , it says nothing about the film or it's stars - literally a non fiction book about Merrick - got it signed to me though .
I also had a book of the film Watership Down with me , but didn't want to be too cheeky - although he seemed happy to sign anything anybody had ( the guy before me had about 12 DVD covers for him ) . I think I just wasn't that bothered about it and expect to meet him again some time - and would of prefered a V For Vendetta DVD cover or photo ,

the bottom line is that there is just too many good films of his to get everything signed by him. You were good mannered to keep it down to a decent amount.

Yes , I was happy not to over-do it .
He was really friendly , very nice , looked positively happy that anybody wanted his auto - and like you say , he has been in lots of brilliant films ( already had my Alien and Hellboy DVD covers signed from when I wrote to him a couple of years ago - and happy to confirm that they are exactly like his IP signature ) .
