Questions about in person at concerts

Unread post by Jaffer »

Hello! Paramore are coming to my city next week, and I was hoping to meet them. I understand these are fairly general questions, but any help would be appreciated.

1. Can you get autographs before the concert, when the artist first arrives?
2.about how long after a concert finishes does the artist usually come out?
3. Where exactly do you wait for the artist?

Thank you!

I'll apologise in advance for giving a bit of a woolly answer, but it really all depends on the venue and what the security is like, and on knowing what time they're arriving, and leaving, or being prepared to hang around for possibly quite a long time.

I've had successes in the past by asking roadies to take things backstage, or identifying someone who is connected with the band/artiste (if they look happy and approachable then they are usually willing to help, if they look scary with big boots and a beard and a scowl then they are less likely to help in my experience...)

You can help yourself by being prepared - I recently got my most wanted by taking an SAE, a photo and a pre-prepared little note to a gig, got lucky by spotting a backing singer and asking if she would mind passing it on and asking him to sign and send it back, which she did, and I got it back a few days later.

As a rule of thumb, if it's a great big venue with loads of really tight security then you stand little chance, if it's a pub gig organised by some drunk college students then you can hardly fail, and everything else falls inbetween.

Good luck!

Jaffer I can help you. I have done this aloooooot and I mean a alot. I will warn you may get a success you may not and be prepared to wait. Once I waited outside got sunburned and never got a success and this venue was easy to obtain autographs. The artist went in very, very early and never came back out until after the concert and even then they went from the stage to the bus. I have also had great successes too. Totally depends on the artist ;-) I have heard good things about Paramore but.... That doesn't necessarily mean you will get lucky. You have to be willing to stick it out and be patient. As a rule of thumb go near where the buses are and hang out if you can.

between and hour and two hours, usually

I once saw George Clinton Presents Funkadelic with the Parliament All-Stars play for four and a half hours at a festival, Ken Dodd plays for about five hours every night, in the days when they used to incite riots I saw the Jesus and Mary Chain play for eight minutes.

It's a moveable feast....

The theatre will be able to tell you when they will start and finish, but how long it takes to get changed, pack up the gear, unwind and clear off is probably anybody's guess.

Thanks buddy.just trying to figure out if it's logistically possible to wait around after and still catch buses, trams etc to get home.

I have been in your position Jaffer. I too rely on transportation sometimes and sometimes I just have to go  It's either I miss catching my bus,etc or miss out on the autograph. I do not want to be stranded so I skip the autograph. I give it the 2 hr rule if I am not seeing anything I just go even though I know they might come out. It is a risk I take unfourtunely. I have missed out on many autographs because of that scenario. I know you don't want to miss out on the autograph but at the same time you don't want to be stranded. It's a tough call.....I am here to help {up} Or at least try.
