Bad IP success with Sublime with Rome
Went out to the local venue by me to meet up with Sublime with Rome. They all signed my poster I had of them which was great, but what made the experience a shity one was the fact that the security goon labeled us as "ebayers" and got very hostile.
He pointed out the fact that we "weren't real fans" and he was going to tell them not to sign for us. When Rome came out he approached him and told him about us and Rome said, "That's alright man, I'll just give them the old ebay autograph". I wasn't sure how to take that if he meant he was going to scribble or condense his autograph. I pointed out to him that I was military and I was not in it to make money, but instead a fan who wanted to meet them and have them sign a poster.
He signed for me alright, didn't acknowledge me or the conversation I was trying to have with him. When I turned my poster over to look at his autograph I noticed that he signed "Ebay, ROME".
It's kind of funny and unique now that I think about it. It's going on my wall, so it's a story I can tell. But what made the whole situation sour and turned me off about them was the goon who labels people and ruins the whole event.
How does this guy decide if you are a "fan" or not? You have to have gone to the show? You need to have a album cover of one of their CD's? Give me a break! I've been listening to them since 1995! I told this guy off after it was all said and done!
I'll post pic for anyone who is interested just let me know.

ya that kinda sucks but yes a funny story....as mine goes w/ 2 of the Doors members i won through a radio contest a gibson guitar and a meet and greet for them to autograph it. well i collect autos on baseballs so i brought a ball along and asked to auto it. he was going to sign it on the side i said no on the "sweet spot" please. better looking. well one member whipered something to him....i guess ebay now.... so he did this to the ball...kinda funny but i was pissed at first. like there autos are in hot demand or something...

Similar situation happened to me and also to my autographing buddy. My situation was totally weird... I was meeting Rooney ( ya where are the now??) Anyways..... In order to meet them you had to buy their cd and I already had but but it again just to be nice so I get to the autographing table and the lead singer Robert says to me here you go you can ebay it now.
I just spent 15.00 for a cd I already have and I am a fan and you are giving me the Ebay story? Are you serious?? After that I was so not a fan anymore. They insulted me and I spent money on a cd I already had. Jerks! And again where are they now?? Nowhere... Anyways.. On to my autographing friend we were getting apex twin and he wrote on my friends cd Ebay stinks how rude is that?? Not everyone is a ebayer or a seller. There are believe it or not collectors and actual fans. Shoot people don't even use ebay anymore for autos they use autographing sites. Hearing stories like this makes me angry

This is a first hand mannifestation of the cynicism that dealers have brought to this hobby. And yet they still have the audacity to claim they are not ruining this hobby.

I don't even think those guys are worthy of signing a real SUBLIME CD.
At least you didn't get dissed by the real third of sublime.

Re: Bad IP success with Sublime with Rome
For some reason the older generation bands are REALLY bad at signing. And the majority of bands think that anyone there waiting for them to sign something that isn't a ticket stub or a cd album is a seller! To be perfectly honest. The last few in person autographs that I've gone out for in the musician genre have almost turned me off to the whole in person collecting.froggig23 wrote:ya that kinda **** but yes a funny story....as mine goes w/ 2 of the Doors members i won through a radio contest a gibson guitar and a meet and greet for them to autograph it. well i collect autos on baseballs so i brought a ball along and asked to auto it. he was going to sign it on the side i said no on the "sweet spot" please. better looking. well one member whipered something to him....i guess ebay now.... so he did this to the ball...kinda funny but i was **** at first. like there autos are in hot demand or something...
When I met Robby K walking into the local venue he gave me a funny look because I asked him to sign a guitar pick guard. I could tell from his facial expression that he reluctantly signed it only because he didn't want to seem like a jerk in front of people, but in the back of his mind he really didn't want to sign because he thought i was going to turn around and sell it.

This is the exact reason that I'm not longer a fan of Sublime or 30 Seconds to Mars, Tears for Fears or ZZ Top or a host of a lot of other bands. They label incorrectly label people for who they aren't and it is disappointing as a true fan that they do that even after you've went to their show.Heyheyyou wrote:Similar situation happened to me and also to my autographing buddy. You are right. They are not worthy of signing a real SUBLIME CD, which is why i purposely bought a "Sublime with ROME" poster to have them all sign. The band still parties pretty hard doing cocaine and drinking to no end, but when it comes down to it they don't know how to treat their fans...unless of course you've got a ticket stub in your hand or your a female.jeries wrote:hockeyfan1994 wrote:You need to have a album cover of one of their CD's? That's a shame it went like that.
Only point I want to make is to defend 30 Seconds To Mars.. well, Jared Leto as he's the only one I've met and he was lovely.

Re: Bad IP success with Sublime with Rome
I've been really really lucky- I've met/hungout with a billion rock stars and only 2 i think were a little bit douchebags... but even they weren't that bad- nothing like what i've read and seen here and on this whole forum.
BUT in defense of some rockstars- if you're at their hotel with 3 of your friends with 4 pickguards each... it kinda looks bad (i'm not saying thats the case but ive seen it)
I have a 'friend' i use the term VERY VERY LOOSELY- friend enough to only have in my phone to ignore his calls...
who i met at concerts and he is honestly a douche. I got him backstage to meet Tom Morello- i guess i was feeling nice... and he handed him 15 audioslave/rage cd and dvd covers- (he signed them all) but thats too far. and he stalks them at hotels and this and that...
and you can tell to an extend- i've seen on ebay stuff signed at shows i was at- and the pictures of them signing have ME in them.
I have a great autograph collection and pick collection and i've never bought or sold anything.
