During the trial she became the first woman in Ontario to obtain her own legal representation to fight for her right to be in the courtroom during the trial.
After her rapist was found guilty she launched a lawsuit against the Toronto Metropolitan Police accusing them of negligence and discrimination based on gender. After years of court dates and trials the Judge found in favour of Jane Doe and set a Canadian legal precedent that citizens were allowed to sue the police over actions during their investigation.
Jane Doe is now a prominent activist and has written a book about her experiences called "The Story of Jane Doe - A Book About Rape".
She gave a lecture here in Ottawa tonight called "The Politics of Rape" which I attended. Afterwards I went down and talked with her and asked her if she would sign my book which she kindly did. She signed it with her real name but because of a publication ban which prohibits anyone from publicly displaying her name or a picture, I have highlighted over it.
