I finally was able to get my Boston Legal Poster signed tonight by Betty White, at a local Barnes and Noble book store signing for the updated version of her Book, "Here we go Again"
I had debated back and fourth today as to if i should go or not, since B&N book signing events are somewhat Notorious for the store staff not wanting to let you get anything singed except for the Book its self, (even if the star is willing to sign a additional item)
Finally around 5pm I decided definitively to make my way to the store and try my luck, figured even if she didnt sign the poster, the online price of the book at Barnes and Noble was 10.86 It was also that price at B&N as well when i looked yesterday(but they said they wouldnt do wristbands till today).
I get to the store after fighting traffic at around 5 mins to 7, with the signing startng at 7
went to the register to purchase my book, finding out that they decided to Jack up the price 5 bucks to the MSRP list price today despite the fact just yesterday and still online today the book was selling for 10.86 I went ahead and paid the slightly inflated price and headed upstairs to the line. According to my wrist band i was number 786 and based on what was infront of me there were definately that man people in front of me. After about 30 mins the line hadnt really moved but people were making there way towards the exit who had gotten there book sign, most commenting on how nice she was and looking at photos they had taken with her while getting signed.
I definately thought this was a good sign but didnt want to get my hopes up though, surely the fact that she is taking the time to talk to each person and take photos with people then chances might be really good for her to sign my poster though. About 8:45 nearly 2 hours after i got inline finnally got to the point in line where i could see her at the table signing. The book store employees were taking everyones book, and handing it to her but patrons could walk up to her when she had their book to talk and take a photo, I was looking to see if people were getting other things signed as well, and i saw a gentleman getting a older book of Betty's signed. I definately felt much better seeing that.
As the line winds its way around the corner and iam just about 15 ppl back from her. I see a girl take out a golden girls DVD box set, after she signed the book and took a photo, and Betty happily signed it.
Then another person took out a betty white Bobble head still in its box and had it signed, another got a photo as well, and a guy getting a tradding card signed also.
I definately thought ok i can get this signed.
So i get to the point where there is just 3 ppl in front of me and a B&N employee approaches me after seeing my poster and asks, are you giving her the poster, I explained it was my poster. He snaps at me "Well shes not allowed to sign memoribillia" I looked back at him i Said " she signed that girls DVD set, that guys Bobbel head, and the trading card". "Well shes not suppose to be signing anything but the book, so dont ask her" I just ignored the guy after that. the girl taking the book asked me if i was getting it personalized I said no thank you. and she didnt say one word about my poster.
I also noticed the guy infront of me got a mini poster from the proposal signed by her as well, so I step up and Betty greeted me, She was very pleasent as i had expected, after she signed the book i asked her if she would mind also signing my Boston Legal poster as it was one of my favorite shows and i really liked her as Catherine Piper, she said yes, and started talking about how much fun she had working on it with James Spader, Shatner, and Candice Bergen and everyone. I noticed the employee who told me Betty was allowed to sign Memorabillia was glareing at me and looked like he was fumeing that she said she would sign it.
I thanked her for her time and for signing it and was on my way.
after over a year of trying unsucssefully tryinig to get this poster signed by her at several premieres, and fear of sending through the mail that it would get lost or damaged, I finally got my poster signed.
Its in black sharpie not the silver that everyone else on the poster signed in, but Iam A ok with that, I had brought my silver poster paint pen with me but didnt want to push my luck asking her to sign it in silver. Iam just glad i got this very talented and funny actress on the poster.
