On 7/1/13 I met Robert Stephenson and Nick Travieso and had them sign a ball together. These are the #1 draft picks for the Cincinnati Reds in 2011 and 2012. Stephenson was 27th overall in 2011 and Travieso was 14th overall in 2012.
Robert Stephenson regularly hits 100 MPH on the radar gun and was leading all the minor leagues in strikeouts before pulling a hamstring 3 weeks ago. He has 88 K's in only 66 innings pitched. He was the strikeout leader in the Midwest league by a landslide when he went to the DL. The person behind him had 16 less K's with more innings pitched than Stephenson. He is ranked the #2 prospect in the Cincinnati Reds organization (Billy Hamilton is #1) and is #44 on MLB.com's Top 100 Prospect list.
Nick Travieso was not highly touted until right before the draft. He "move up the draft boards quickly" and impressed many teams during workouts. He throws low 90's and is labeled a "raw pitcher" but has all of the makings to be a successful MLB pitcher if he properly develops.
This is definitely the ball for Reds fans, having the team's top draft picks for 2011 and 2012 on the same ball together!
