Anyone who trades a Gorbachev autograph?

Unread post by autocollector98 »

Hi guys!

In the last years I tried to get an autograph of the former Soviet president Mikhail Gorbachev many times. Unfortunately, I'd never get anything back...
In the following a list of interesting autographs which I would really like to trade if you had a Gorbachev autograph:

Sir Bobby Charlton (World Cup winner with England)
Johann Cruyff ("European footballer of the century")
Alfredo di Stefano (Real Madrid legend who passed away 2014)
Sir Alex Ferguson (most successful coach of Manchester United)
Neymar (Brazilian footballer, Fc Barcelona)
Carl Lewis ("Sportsman of the Century")
Joan Fontaine (dead Oscar-winning Hitchcock actress)
Sir Ben Kingsley (Oscar for "Gandhi")
Jimmy Carter (former US president)

All of these autographs are to my knowledge real and of course without dedication!
My favourite autographs:
musicians: Sir Elton John, Lionel Richie, Brian May (Queen), Phil Collins, Alan Parsons, Status Quo, Lang Lang, Charles Aznavour, Shirley Bassey
actors/actress: Sophia Loren, Joan Fontaine, Luise Rainer, Daniel Craig, Morgan Freeman, Kirk Douglas, Kevin Spacey, Ian McKellen
athletes: Michael Schumacher, Carl Lewis, Mark Spitz, Steffi Graf, Roger Federer. Allfredo di Stefano, Sir Bobby Charlton, Johan Cruyff, Franz Beckenbauer, Sir Alex Ferguson, Neymar
others: Mikhail Gorbachev, Jimmy Carter, Dalai Lama, Helmut Kohl, Simone de Beauvoir, Helmut Schmidt, Joseph Beuys

Most wanted: Roger Waters, David Gilmour

I am surprised. Gorbachev seems fairly reliable. Did you translate your request to Russian and include Russian cash for return postage? That seems to increase the chances to get something back. I got my Gorbachev book signed and returned very quickly summer of 2015.

Thank you for the answer and your tips! No, I didn't translate it to Russian because I know that he's is speaking English as well... But I always included Russian stamps (also in summer 2015).
Perhaps you should try it a second time and then trade with me ;-)

I can try a second time if you can trade for a classic Motörhead set - yes Philthy and Lemmy both died last year, but I know for a fact that they signed a lot at most shows during 40 years 1975 to 2015 so it is not a "crazy request".... and any guitarist of the era (Eddie, Robbo or Wurz) is fine! (Long time Motörhead fan, saw them many times but stupidly skipped their last show and didn´t try to get autographs....)

As for Gorbachev´s English skills I found this: "He does. When he was touring the UK and met Thatcher in 1984, he spoke English to the press. But he's used a translator since he became General Secretary and after.". So he did not seem to use his English for the last 40 years, and is of rather poor health so it may be too much of an effort or something at this point.

You are right, maybe I should really try to write him in Russian.
But unfortunately, I have no Motörhead atograph to trade :/

Yes, try that and he should answer. And I´ll have to find Motörhead autographs somewhere else then :)
