I go to autograph shows all the time and I never once mind having to pay for signatures whether they are obtained in person or through their official websites.
I also go to autograph shows too and I barely am able to afford anyone. They all charge 20-30 dollars an autograph!! And charge for photo ops which I can't stand paying for.

I understand and appreciate your position on paying for autographs, and don't want to start an argument (disagreement) but please take the time to consider the following:

My expenses for sending a request are (these numbers are estimated so are only generally accurate)
1 the photo $5.00
2 shipping $3.00 (the cost to have the photo sent to me. Probably is much lower on average as I tend to purchase photos in a batch of 4-7.
3 envelopes (2) $1.00
4 postage $2.00 (international requests may be a bit more)
total $11.00

Another minor factor is the risk of sending something and never receiving it back. The bottom line is that when I calculate my expenses and compare those costs to a "purchase" price, especially one in the $10.00 to $15.00 range, is that it is acceptable. The down side (for me at least) is that getting an autograph is slightly (very slightly) less exciting.

Of course doing the cost analysis is the price I pay for being an accountant. Or now a retired number cruncher.

Again my apologies if I stepped on any one's toes. Just trying to point out that the costs of a "free" autograph is similar to paying for (buying) one.
I have been asked many times about trading / selling some of my autographs. I am sorry but my collection is not and will not be for sale.

The last show I attended was the Spring Chiller Theatre Expo in NJ a few weeks back. The prices were very reasonable and a majority of the stars posed for photos at no cost.

I heard they charged for photo ops at that show. Hal Linden charged 30 an autograph and 10 dollars per photo op. That's crazy! Hal Linden's autograph isn't even worth that much.

If it's someone I like, and paying is the only way I can get his/her autograph, then I'll pay if I can afford it. Older actors, in particular, don't have much by way of income anymore, so I don't begrudge them asking for $10-$20. If I go to a convention (and I usually barely make 2 a year), I know I'm going to be spending anywhere from $20-$40 and sometimes more (Leonard Nimoy is charging $65 for his upcoming appearance at Phoenix Comicon)...that's the nature of the beast.

Looking at my 2011 successes so far, I paid for 8 of them, and was happy to do so.
2014 Successes:
Tom Baker, Patrick Stewart (vv), Peter Cullen, Robin Atkin Downes, Jenna-Louise Coleman, Trace Beaulieu, George Lowe, Joe Dante, Willem Dafoe, Jeffrey Brown, Maurice LaMarche, Alan Oppenheimer, Penn & Teller (last success 10/14/14)

About the charges and differences in paying for an autograph and getting your own...

When I send a 8x10 I spend $3.00 total in postage, Maybe $2.00 in Shipping Material, & about $2.00 to make my own photos. I only send 8x10's out to those who are very good signers. That's $7 Worst Case, 5x7 I spend about half of that.

When Russell Johnson is charging $25 a pop plus shipping... Seems like a big difference in price to me. For a price like that I would expect Giligan or the Skipper.

It was Hal's first autograph show ever! He's probably not familiar with what people are willing to pay. When I bought both an autographed photo and a photo op with him, I don't remember him charging for the full $40. I believe he offered a deal. He was a nice guy and looked great.
