Here in Sweden they dont sell IRC and have not done it for many years.. How on god can we then provide stamps?? I would love to buy som English stamps from someone on here(maybye for an autograph as exchange).
Yes, we can read. We understand that you can't buy foreign stamps online from their respective websites. The solution to that problem is to find someone on here that would be kind enough to help you out.

Lets not get offensive now.
Hey there, Sorry if i sounded offensive.. Just that i have read so many posts about that it is our fault and so on.. I mean, people need to think that you cant buy stamps everywhere and so on.

If you go to the autograph discussion forum you can post all your stamp needs on there. I posted on there and another site about a month ago and I now have stamps for Austrailia, New Zealand and loads of US stamps from other collectors willing to help. There are plenty of nice people on here that are more then willing to help fellow collectors.

You have people like Richard, then we have real stars that are so wonderful with the fans like Judi Dench and Barbara Eden. Even Tina Louise
said in a note to me it's $10 to sign photos but was still kind enough to sign one for me.
He didn't even sign his name at the end of the note.

JonAQ wrote:I have to agree with Fon. It is common knowledge that if you don't provide Richard Griffiths with a SASE then he's going to be very upset. As I stated earlier, he probably sent back your picture unsigned using his own postage to make a statement. All he asks for is proper postage and he'd have absolutely no problem signing you picture.

As for the whole "he would be nothing without us" argument, that is true to a certain extent, but reguardless of that, no one HAS to sign autographs. It's a nice way to give back to fans, yes, but no one is required to.

There are people on here that will exchange stamps with you in order for you to have the right type of postage, as well.

Some people I know even go the extra mile when sending to celebrities and send them various gift cards as an extra "thank you".

Like Fon said, you have to make it as easy for the celebrity as possible.
I disagree with you on a few things. While it's true he DOESNT have to sign then, and thats ok if he doesnt because alot of people dont sign TTM, but there's no reason that he has to be a complete A-hole to the people who pay to see his work. He simply could just not return it, not send back some snotty and rude note. And it seems to me that he doesnt mind paying postage because he willingly pays the postage to send them back a rude letter and return their items, unsigned.

As for making it as easy as possible for them, we are. As others have stated, it's VERY difficult to get british postage outside the UK. I contacted a member on this website who tried selling me 20 uk stamps. I paid him, he sent the stamps but then someone stole the stamps right out of the envelope. He refunded me, but i still didnt have the stamps I needed. An IRC is still making it pretty easy on him.

As for me, I sent 3 british pounds which is more then enough to pay for postage (went to the bank and exchanged currency) to him instead of stamp, and I'm still waiting for a reply so We'll see how mine plays out.

It's not as if anyone who did even a little bit of research wouldn't know what sort of response you're going to get from Richard Griffiths if you don't send him a photo and an SAE with UK stamps on, but it's always entertaining to sit down with a biscuit and scroll through these discussions.

This is the man who was primarily famous a few years ago for throwing a woman out of a theatre during a performance when her phone went off. (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/london/4458810.stm)

In the UK there are very high fees for changing foreign money at banks and post offices.

You can't just send a fiver's worth of Swedish money or US dollars thinking that will cover it, because it will cost whoever is exchanging it more than double that to exchange it -plus the aggravation of having to physically go somewhere to do the transaction.

If I were doing someone a favour and was faced with IRCs which I would then have to go and queue up in a British post office (there is always a queue, and it always moves INCREDIBLY SLOWLY) to exchange, with the very likely scenario that the person serving would have no idea what it was or what to do with it, then I would throw the whole lot in the bin and move on to the next request.

I used to sell books on eBay for a living and would regularly be sent cash in dollars and euros which I couldn't use and wasn't able to change without incurring fees that would exceed the amount sent. I still have a handful of Chinese money which I received once (I sent the book because I was in a good mood).

Unless you know that the person you're writing to spend loads of time in a country where they can spend it, sending small amounts of foreign money to someone in the UK is about as useful as throwing it away or burning it. It's a two-way transaction, and if you can't get UK stamps it's not unreasonable to expect someone with Mr Griffith's reputation to not rise to it.

I would, however, love to get a response from him like that. There is something quite magnificent about Mr Griffiths when provoked.

I would reply back to him and thank him for his letter. Tell him it was far better than a photo of him and his signature.

Hahaha. It would make his blood boil, I am sure.

I always include SASE with my request with the proper postage from the country I'm writing to. It's some sort of respect to make it as easy as possible to the actor to sign.
How do you do that, dani? --> I found out by myself. :P
