I wrote to the Dalai Lama on 02/14/2017 and received a reply on 09/28/2018
I used the following address

Unfortunately the U.S. Postal Service destroyed it. I am writing him back and explaining what happened, I hope I can get a replacement.

Wow, such an awesome success. I'm so sorry that it got damaged. I guess it's hard to tell if it honestly got damaged in India or in the USA. I received a letter today (huge coincidence) in the same type of USMail packaging because it was really badly damaged. However, it wasn't domestic, it came from Italy. So maybe it has something to do with international mail, or it can happen at the other country? I guess I'm just not sure if it was the US Mail. Either way, I think you should try again. I hope next time you'll receive it in perfect condition!

Hi I used U.S. postage and the post office had me put five dollars on the envelopes.

I'm sorry this happened. Looks like it was in a monsoon in India...Kepp the autograph even if you clip it out in case you cant get another one..

Yes I wrote back and told His Holiness what had happened and he signed my replacement phots as well as enclosed them in plastic sleeves so that they wouldn't get damaged
