Bert Blyleven (Insufficient funds)

Unread post by milbfan »

Sent LOR, $40, 1985 Donruss Champions Card ($20) and Hall of Fame Plaque ($20?)
Bert Blyleven, PO Box 2308, Fort Myers, FL, 33902
Sent 8/1 received both unsigned 8/13
I made the assumption that a post card would be the same as a baseball card, since there was no price for the HOF Postcard at the time of submission on his website.
http://www.bertblyleven.com/pages/autographs.htm
So if you send the Hall of Fame Postcard to be signed it will cost $40.
I will resend with another baseball card.

Yea,...I think he's a bit steep...but if you're collecting HOF'ers, guess you have to pay it!

Thanks for the info....Thats too bad. I planned to send $20 with the postcard, $40 is a bit too steep for me right now.
Feedback is always welcomed and appreciated!

I collect signed Hall of fame postcards and 8x10 photos signed by baseball Hall of Famers and I'm always looking to add to my collection with players I don't have yet.
Totals(not including doubles)
HOF postcards: 63
HOF photos: 68

Thank you to everyone on this site for all the help!!

These guys kill me. He was a good + pitcher........not great. Didn't the guy make enough money while he was playing? Just makes you like guys like Rich Gossage even more. Good luck and sorry you are having to pay more.

Blyleven was a tremendous pitcher should have made HOF a long time ago, but I agree that price is a bit steep. He was a trmendous signer when he was an active player signed several cards for me and my brother at Angels Spring Training when he played for the Halos

That is why it took so long. He was not elite, very good, but not elite.

That really shows the difference between some people. you have certain players who will use their own envelope, stamp, picture, and most importantly, time. Then you have great players like Mr, Blyleven who are most likely set for life and hes charging 40$ just to sign it, not even using his own stamps envelopes or anything. it is kind of sad but It is what it is. Then on the bright side, if you pay for one, in the future it might be even rarer since not too many people will spend that kind of money today for his autograph
Signatures: Sandy Alomar (baseball), Michael Jordan(baseball), Mike Hargrove(baseball), Chris Perez (baseball), Matt Laporta (baseball), Vinnie Pestano, Michael Brantley, and Tony Sipp signed baseball. Mark Richt, Jim Davis x2, Rick Barnes, Jim Calhoun, Ernie Els, Ed Hochuli, John Calipari AP, Coach K, Mike Eruzione, Tony Dungy, Josh Groban PP, Selena Gomez PP, Mark Salling, 3 Fuzzy zoeller signed golfballs, 2 Chi Chi Rodriguez signed golf balls,Frank Thomas signed baseball bat (used), many chichi sigs on cards pics balls etc. 2010 indians spring training hat signed by: Mitch Talbot, Justin Masterson, Kerry Wood, Jhonny Peralta, and Manny Acta. Many More too!

Bert just signed for me TTM... I got back my baseball and card signed w/o any inscriptions, but I didn't ask for any. But, I sent an extremely long fan letter and I'm from Minnesota so I guess that helps my cause. I guess you DON'T have to send money to all HOF'ers that request $ for an auto, "VJW". Bert was an amazing pitcher and even a better person. I have his auto several times from TwinsFest and the Twins Annual Autograph Party. He's truly a class act. Thanks Rik.

Hi:
I re-sent my request with two Baseball cards today. I am just ticked that I sent the money and then they decided how much to charge for a signed postcard. Its not like they did not know about the postcard. Bert and his wife visited the Hall back in May.

The intent of my post was to provide information such that no one else would be caught of guard. I personally am not quite ready to pay $40 for his plaque at this time. Maybe if all of the proceeds from his autograph went to his charity, then sure I would do it. Therefore, I would get a tax write off. Silly me for being selfish.

Gary Carter charged $50 to $75 at first for signing the plaque. So this is not unusual. Until his illness, he was charging $25. We can only pray that Gary will recover from his illness.

I have paid Reggie Jackson $35, (Mr. October Foundation for Kids). Carlton Fisk $40 (Cancer Support) for their plaque postcards.

So, in closing, I don't think any less of Mr. Blyleven, he is a person like the rest of us.
