Unread post by jontan »

I didn't really ecspect to receive this one. But yesterday it finally came, I'm so happy!
Christopher Lee's (as Saruman) autograph on a 20x25 cm photo. Sent a SASE including this picture.
This is my 3rd LOTR autograph. I also got Andy Serkis (Gollum), and Ian McKellen (Gandalf). :D

I hate to be the one to burst the bubble, but this is his usual non authentic response.

Because it is identical to other results which come from TTM requests. He is well known not to sign, and has in the past used a mix of methods to avoid, including Autopens and Stamps. The texture on this one, looking at it, made me think it was stamped on this occasion, but hard to tell from an image. Sadly he's just one that doesn't sign via agents often. He has VERY rarely, but this isn't one of the times. I'll have a dig and find one of the others and post it, but am sure a wee search on here would show some info up. He does like to mix it up, different colours etc, but they're just not the real deal.

Hi

Unfortunately it is near impossible to get an authentic Christopher Lee signature nowadays. I have heard from reliable sources who have met him and asked him in person numerous times that he stamps in person also, as due to his very old age and advanced arthritis he can no longer use a pen to sign well, or on bad days cant use a pen at all. i dont know him personally but it makes sense.

This is also why his film appearances of the last ten years have been mainly short cameos and usually sitting down (like the fisherman in dark shadows) and also why he refused to fly to New Zealand for a part in the hobbit series. my understanding is that his scenes will/have been filmed in england and inserted in (i dont know for sure though, i havent seen it) his health is failing and he cant do as much as he used to.

I know that a stamp/auto pen IS NOT a genuine autograph, but hopefully you can take consolation the the fact that they still reply at all.

good luck with your lord of the rings collection. ive worked with sean astin and think you should definately try him if he comes to your town for an appearance etc. he was incredibly fan friendly. i dont know if he does ttm though.
