I sent a nice, short letter to William Katt with SASE and received my SASE within 2 weeks, unfortunately instead of the dvd cover I sent being signed the back of my letter was written on. The message?: autographs are 40.00 +SASE
Wow. Just like Pete Rose. sadness.

He doesn't work much so he probably needs the money to support himself.

Many celebrities do charge these days. Some need the money, some don't. Some do it to counteract their signatures being sold online; some donate the money to charity.
Sorry you got that response though.

When I send for a Photo I ask them to personalize it to Say "hello ( so and so) that way
one can not try and sale it on Ebay As who would want to by a Autograph photo that is made
out to some one else ..

Katt will sign. He signed for me. I wrote him a page length letter, explained I was a fan and why. Sent him two photos which he signed. I also sent him a photocopy of another Katt autograph I own, and asked him to confirm it's authenticity - he signed that one as well and wrote me a brief note in response to my letter. Really nice guy.
Don't use a form letter and just change the name. Personalize it. Write from the heart. And ask him to dedicate your dvd cover "To name"

I don't blame anyone for trying to make a little money for their autograph (I don't believe the "if it weren't for fans, where would they be") but $40 ttm is definitely too much. $40 in-person is even a little much especially for someone who hasn't done anything big for 20+ years.
His mother was a very good ttm signer though I haven't heard much from her in the last few years.

Wrong. Depending on who it is made out to, stuff like that sells on eBay. And there are those who are of the mind that if it in inscribed it is less likely to be an autopen or otherwise fake than items with just their signature.

But he is right the reality is autographs that are personalized do not sell for very much money because even though it makes them more likely to be authentic people just don't want an autograph that's made out to someone else, I know I wouldn't.

As for William katt charging I am a bit surprised considering if you look at his imdb he has continued to work and I know he hasn't been in anything big in awhile but $40.00 is double what most b rated celebrities ask and they are at the high end. I thought he was great as the greatest American hero and I liked him in the original carrie and house the movie not the tv show lol
