when I went to the post office they said the IRC method is something old and out of date. I sent a self addressed stamped with AIR MAIL stamped on it and the stamp on it was a USA first class stamp.
They said the UK will honor it and send it back. The return address is me as well so the worst thing that could happen is to be hit a surcharge no?
I hope they know what they are doing.

The stamps would not be valid from sending from the UK to US, but you may perhaps receive a note in your mail saying that the sender did not provide the correct postage. They would then allow you to pay the costs and pick up your mail. I hope it turns out well for you, let me know how it goes.

Yeah the airmail stamped and postage stamp letter is suppose to be coming back from UK, the head of the post office said they should honor it to send it back. But like I said both of the address I stuck on the letter was mine so it should some how make it back I'll prob have to pay extra before they hand it over.

USA stamps aren't valid in the UK. That's why IRC's were invented in the first place. If we could all stick our country's stamp on an envelope to anywhere in the world, there would be no need for post offices in the first place.
