Piano/keyboard?

Unread post by Paigey012 »

Hello :mrgreen:

I have got a keyboard and I have had it since Christmas last year. I love playing round on it! At the moment I only play single note sheet music like this.
I have baught a few books & a CD Rom for my computer but they are all really confusing :? I have taught myself how to play the single notes but I really want to start playing real notes like this.

Does anyone play the piano or keyboard?
If so I would love to hear from you! It would be great if you could give me any advice about starting with the real notes/how you learned to play/ or even teach me simply how to play them (if that is even possible :lol: )

Thanks so much!!

When I used to do music in school, we had to play keyboards near enough every lesson for three years and I still can't play one :lol: . What some people did was getting the sheets of music with the real notes on it and writing underneath what note it is, it's meant to help reading them but I didn't do it.

I don't play the piano but I do play the clarinet (badly), well not too badly - I've recently passed my grade 4 but I don't really find the time to practise any more. But yep, I can read music and when I first learnt I didn't even have music like the first link with letter names, I went straight into notes on a score but I was told their letter names as I went along. It's just another method of teaching though I suppose. :) The only problem I have, is that now I can hardly even remember the letter names at all, I know them just by where they are placed on the score.

Good luck with it all! :mrgreen: I'd have trouble with the piano as you obviously have to play different sections of music with each hand.

Man, I started learning the piano about 10 years ago now :P That makes me feel old.

What I would suggest is to just buy a basic beginners piano book, some might have the letter names under the score or if not I'm pretty sure there are some easy 'teach yourself' books out there. What my sisters teacher did when she was learning was to write the names of the notes in felt tip or something that would wipe off on the keys.

Might take a while but its definitely worth being able to read a score properly, not just play off a list of letter names because you can't get the note length, or style etc from just that. Even if you feel a bit silly doing it there are books out there aimed at younger children which should be easier to understand, or if not (and if you can afford it) find somewhere you can get lessons, even if its a friend who can read music because its a lot easier if you have someone else to help explain it.

Good luck with it all anyway!

On piano, I can play The Grand Old Duke Of York, Michael Finnigan and a song written by my Year 7 music teacher called I Would Like A Piece Of Cheese! Liberace has nothing on me :lol:

I can't advise you myself on how to play piano but I do play guitar and I get a lot of help from youtube tutorials. Most are by legit teachers. I'm sure if you looked, you would find some piano tutorials on youtube too {thumb2}

I have been playing the piano for about 4 years. And I should be sincere with you. I haven't been practicing it a lot, so now I can't play it very very well. But I know how to play a few songs. And after a week of my practicing, I can play one new song. So everything depends on PRACTICE! Good luck!
