Re: Goldfish in an 14L tank?
Ok, I text my friend again
She said that Goldfish adapt to their environment. They only grow if they have room to grow. Therefore, pond Goldfish grow bigger than tank Goldfish. I wish humans could do that! I would have made myself grow a lot taller than 5ft,1"
Re: Goldfish in an 14L tank?
margot, that's just an old myth. Goldfish will grow slower in a smaller container, and may even be stunted, but they will still eventually hit that foot-long mark. Stunting the Goldfish is a rather cruel thing because while bodies grow slower in response to their confinements, their internal organs will continue to grow at a normal pace. You can imagine what would happen if the balance between the two becomes too lopsided to the latter.
My suggestion to the OP would be to get a single male Betta. These are the only fish that are both suitable for beginners and can live comfortably in a tank of 3 gallons.

Dfreely, I have a pond myself, and yes we have big goldfish in there, but it's a big pond.
My cousin has a 15L fish tank with 2 goldfish in, she's had it for three years and they have grown a bit, but not noticeably.
