Re: Parents on Autograph Collecting
I think I started collecting when I was about 11. I told my mom about it, and she was skeptical that these stars would even sign anything.
Then when I got my first reply, and I was super happy. It meant that someone took the time to read my letter, and sign my photo.
Plus, my mom was super happy when she saw some other girls my age doing marijuana, and I was inside writing letters. It really is harmless. You can prove people have success from these addresses, so you know it's safe. If you don't believe so, use a parents name or something.
It's also helped a TON with grammar. ;)

Re: Parents on Autograph Collecting
THE RULES
1. DO NOT GET POLITICAL IF YOUR PARENTS DISAGREE WITH THE PEOPLE YOU SEND TO
2. TRY TO, AT FIRST, MAIL YOUR FAVORITE STARS AND IDOLS. AFTER SOME TIME YOU WILL BE ABLE TO SLOWLY CREEP IN PEOPLE YOU KNOW LESS ABOUT AND EVENTUALLY GET TO A POINT WHERE RANDOM MAILINGS ARE ACCEPTABLE.
3. MAKE A LIST OF PROS AND CONS OF THE HOBBY, LIKE THIS:
PROS: Better grammar and fluency in literature, Growth of patience in waiting for autographs, a higher level of maturity by writing to adults, more real-world experience. CONS: Stamp, Ink, or Envelope expenses. (COPY THIS LIST, TALK WITH YOUR PARENTS ABOUT THE HOBBY, AND ASK THEM TO CONTRIBUTE ANYTHING UNDER CONS TO THE LIST. IT WILL MAKE THE IDEA OF MAILING LOOK MUCH BETTER TO YOUR PARENTS, BECAUSE THE PROS OUTWEIGH THE CONS.)

Re: Parents on Autograph Collecting
I agree with your whole statement except the one about mailing to people you know nothing about. Its called FAN mail so send to people you are a fan of. and my parents were very easy going about me starting. They actually like to see who I'm writing to.Sasorikiller wrote:THE RULES

Re: Parents on Autograph Collecting
My parents have always supported me with my collecting. My dad always asks me if I got anything, and is excited to see who I got. My mom, too, but not so much. She's busy with other things, lol.

Just tell them it's something you'd really like to do and offer to pay for all expenses. - and iron out all their worries/doubts.
