Increase in Australian Overseas Postage Prices

No, I don't think a price rise will affect domestic mail. Again, I am yet to hear of new price changes for international mail, so until there's official word, the current prices remain.

It still is incredibly unreported, maybe they're planning to spring it on us. It won't affect domestic post but it will affect parcels too, I believe.

Lucas, where about in Australia do you live? It's very unlikely that they will increase prices without letting the population know. They've reported postage price rises in the media in the past, why not now?

There's still nothing on Australia Post's website to suggest a price rise. Unfortunately, I've been very busy this week that I haven't had the chance to go to the post office to mail out some requests or ask staff about this price rise If prices do rise next week, I'm going to have to live with it :x.

Well Lucas, I've been too busy this week that I haven't had any time to even drop by a post office. If I did have a moment, I would have definitely posted 2 requests.

I will definitely be going to the post office next week though, even with the price rise . I'll ask for the new prices, and have them posted up in the collecting help sticky.

So now it's going to cost an extra 15c in postage ... ... that's how much it rose by last time.

You think that they would have made some sort of press release about it - on their website, in the news, the newspapers etc. I guess you could probably get away with $1.80 for a while though...

Looks like Australia isn't the only place to be plagued by post increases The Royal Mail in the UK is upping prices on 3rd April 2006:

Domestic 1st Class will rise from 30p to 32p, and 2nd Class will increase from 21p to 23p.

These prices are valid until 21st August 2006.

After that date the whole system will be replaced by "Pricing In Proportion", meaning letter will be charged by size as well as weight in 3 basic categories:
Letter, (240mm x 165mm x 5mm thick) - up to 100g First Class 30p - Second Class 21p
Large Letter (353mm x 250mm x 25mm thick) - up to 100g First Class 42p - Second Class 35p
Packet (353mm x 250mm x larger than 25mm thick) - up to 100g First Class 94p - Second Class 80p

It looks like this system might be much easier to understand and by the look of it could be a bit cheaper for SOME items. Unfortunately if you send out A4 SASE's in the UK (like me!) the cost for those will increase from 21p to 35p

There has been nothing on the Australia Post website to indicate a price rise :x, yet apparently it's supposed to start this Monday!

I'll have the postal prices sticky in "Collecting Help" updated as soon as I get word on these new prices next week...

According to the postage rate caclulator on Australia Post's website, a standard letter up to 50g to the Asia/Pacific region will cost $1.25 and to the rest of the world $1.85. Postcards and cards are now $1.20.

The letter prices have contradicted what Lucas has said about the price rise (5c instead of 15c,) so I'll have the exact prices confirmed when I get to a post office tomorrow and ask (too busy today unfortunately .)

I will definitely confirm these prices shortly and update the prices currently in Collecting Help!

I have been to Australia Post this morning and will confirm that the cost of sending a letter off overseas is what is stated above in the previous post. I bought some really nice Commonwealth Games stamps to send some requests off. They cost $1.85.

IRC's are still the same price - $2.50

That's very annoying about UK prices too Ian! At least you guys get plenty of warning and it's all public. We're having a secret secret classified price rise.

I'm not sure how it will effect the 47p SASEs I sometimes use from the UK

As far as I can tell, the UK price rise in April will only affect domestic post, so if you have successes using 47p stamps on your sase's from the UK then that should not change!

However, 47p only acutally covers up to 10g from the UK to Australia i.e. postcards etc! So if you have had successes you have been lucky I sent 30 x 47p letters to the USA last year, and did not get one reply

Other prices for post from the UK to the USA are 68p for 20g, £1.12 for 40g, and £1.56 for 60g
