"Acting legend Paul Newman dies at 83
Spokeswoman says Oscar-winning screen icon has succumbed to cancer
WESTPORT, Conn. - Paul Newman, the Academy-Award winning superstar who personified cool as the anti-hero of such films as "Hud," "Cool Hand Luke" and "The Color of Money" — and as an activist, race car driver and popcorn impresario — has died. He was 83.

Newman died Friday after a long battle with cancer at his farmhouse near Westport, publicist Jeff Sanderson said. He was surrounded by his family and close friends.

In May, Newman had dropped plans to direct a fall production of "Of Mice and Men," citing unspecified health issues."

RIP and Thank you Mr. Newman

This is rather sad about, Paul Newman, an amazing actor, I did write a post very recently, that said, that drs did not give him very long, and they where right.

Pauls career, can be split into a few phazes:

1954-1961: a very versitile young leading man, who did a great deal, of brooding young anti-hero's with a few nice parts added for a bit of balance.

1962-1970:The already graying Paul, (at 37) started to play more muture deeper parts, with a lot of depth. Hud was one of his all time great roles, that he played at the time, I think his acting in this is fantastic, but only problem was, he was about 5 years too old for the part.

Among other great roles at the time where Harper, torn curtain, and Butch Cassidy.

1971-80: The late middle aged, Paul continued to make some great movies, as the roles he was getting where a bit more world weary, in line with his age, it was also at this time that he appeared in a few bombs, but always gave a good performance even in some dire rubbish.

1981 Onwards: the by now older statesman of an actor, still continued to give top rate performances.

He will be sadly missed. {down} {down}
