The newspapers were speculating as always, just as they said he was leaving at the end of S4, which he clearly didn't.
My heart is broken, but it will heal. David will continue to inspire and astound me in every part he plays, and I'm consoled by this fact. David is, as ever, a gentleman and I'm thankful that he broke the news himself, live on television, instead of the BBC releasing a statement. He clearly respects his fans, and I will miss my Doctor when the time comes.

Yep I heard the news, very sad indeed, as I cannot quite see anyone else, so good in the role.
He reminds me, of all the best of the old dr's plus some of himself, I can remember watching this in around 1966, age 4, and in the last 42 years, I dont think that there has ever been a better Dr.
Having said that, I do have a soft spot, for some of the early drs. And I'm sure whoever, takes over from David, will do a great job too.

he said he wants to quit now so he doesnt want to become typecast. No offence, he is a good actor but im afraid its far beyond that point for him now. He will always be known as Dr Who.

I think for alot of people your right, but I know David's a really great actor, I watched "Takin over the asylum" about 2 months ago and after about 10 minutes he wasnt the doctor to me anymore, I was pulled into the whole new character of his. He's very good at changing his routine.
As for the next doctor? Robert Caryle all the way! if its anyone like stephen Fry I don't think ill be into it so much, theres only certain people that can pull of a good Doctor and David Tennant got it spot on. I prefer my doctor to be abit funny as well as serious.
Osiris - Thats what the papers are saying.
